yep, that's right about the money. it holds no intrinsic value, but is solely a means to an end. if i didn't want to go on vacations around the world and work on classic cars as a hobby, and didn't want to buy a lot of land (so that i didn't have neighbors) with a small lake and all that other stuff, then I wouldn't even be in college right now.

i'd just get a minimum wage job to pay the electricity, water, rent, etc. and be fine with that. however, since i don't want to just sit in pa and pay bills till i die, i gotta get a good degree and make some money.

the most important thing in life (to me) is having a good time.

Me too. But we learned at new hire orientation that that's more of an European philosophy/lifestyle. Americans are more and more the most workaholic nation in the country.

A close second for most important thing is to be recognized for my work. That's why I want to be a professor with cool research that people all over the world read.

Yep, they also have a shorter work week and more vacation time. They realized they need to go back to a 40 hr work week, and I heard that there were riots because of that. I found an article about the work week: http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0715/p17s01-cogn.html

I didn't find anything confirming these rumored riots, though.

I think that article said something like 6 week average vacation per year in europe. I don't know what the average is in America, but I'm sure it's lower.
