Ella 16 Month Update

Stats:
  • Weight: 22 lb 0 oz  (56th percentile for WHO and 30th percentile for CDC)
  • Height: 33.75 inches  (99.4th percentile for WHO and 99.2nd percentile for CDC)
  • Head Circumference: 46 cm (54th percentile for WHO and 47th percentile for CDC)
  • Diapers: Size 3
  • Total Teeth: 8 (I think. haven't checked in awhile)
  • Clothing: Carter's 12 month dresses and 18 mo tops. For pants she wears 18 month pants. I put her in some 12 mo shorts and they fall down off her diaper. She's been wearing 12-24 month socks for a while now but they seem like they are getting small. Some shirts are still too wide. Some are too short too.   She's wearing 18 month Gerber onesies. We prefer t-shirts. She is wearing some painted t-shirts even though they are too big.  One is 24 mo and 2 are size 3 (website says they run small).  She wears size 5 shoes.
  • Weight/Length percentile: 7% (WHO) or 1% (CDC)
Sleep
The month started off with her napping on me but as the month went on she got better and napped in the crib a lot more. About half the month she slept through the night and half the month she didn't. She goes to sleep later and wakes up later since the time change.

Eating
She still refuses food all the time and throws it. If she's around her friends she will eat more food. If Dave is around she tends to eat what he gives her.  On April 17,  I got down to 3 nursing sessions a day unless she wakes up in the night.  This has been very difficult.
Sample Schedule:
Since we changed the clocks she sleeps in more and I love it. She stays up later too though.  She wakes up around 7 but has had a few days close to 8 AM. She goes to sleep between 8:30 and 10 though. Well we start bedtime routine roughly the same time but sometimes she's in her crib awake until 10.  She only naps 1 time so if that gets screwed up in a stroller and she naps 20 minutes that is her nap for the day.  Her nap is most consistently around 1 but some days as early as noon if she has a very busy morning and sometimes as late as 2  but the varying time is also based on if she woke up early or slept in so usually I can predict it pretty well.  The second half the month she was finally back to napping in the crib.  Ella had 2 different naps on me this month that lasted for 4 hours!  I think her average nap is closer to 2 hours.

Special Moments:
On March 21, Dave watched Ella during a Stampin' Up class and they had so much fun at the park and then playing with the water table.  Ella peed in the potty!  We removed the gate between the dining room and kitchen.
On March 25, while I was at the grill, Ella opened the back door and went outside.
On March 27, when I went in to get Ella in the morning she had a bloody mouth and some blood on the sheets. Later I saw some teeth marks on the side of the crib. But I'm still not sure how it happened.
On March 29, Ella pointed to the potty. I put her down. She got me potty book. Then I got down and put her on the potty. She peed in the potty!
On March 30, she kept signing more. I asked if she wanted milk. She shook her head no and signed to eat. This is a major step!
On April 3, I noted that she recently learned to bring us our shoes when we need them.  I know she did this on April 3 but not sure the first day she did it.
On April 4, when Ella was on the potty she stood up and then peed. It still went in the potty but she stood!
On April 8, Ella put my socks in the hamper when I asked her to.
On April 12, Ella unlocked a childproof cabinet.
On April 13, Ella took a 4 hour nap on me! I was dying.   She walked backwards.
On April 14, she turned on the bathroom faucet. She climbed into her high chair. She made a t sound.
On April 17, she drank from a bottle. She had fun. It was less than an oz but it was her first bottle she didn't hate. I only gave it to her because I pumped.
On April 18, Ella took my finger brace off and put it on her pointer finger. She was so cute with it.
On April 19 at 2 AM, Ella woke up. I was getting her back to sleep but I fell asleep myself. Next thing I know Ella is on the phone with my mom. Ella called her or I did in my sleep. Both are unlikely. I woke up and saw the phone connected and hung up but my mom called back.    Later in the morning Ella peed, I changed her diaper, then she peed on the floor (after running away from the potty) and I put a new diaper on her, then she pooped. I told Dave about it saying "boom boom boom" and then Ella repeated "boob boob boob" and signed for milk. We were shocked so we asked her to repeat and she said it again.
On April 20, a song came on with La la la and Ella repeated it. This was the first time I heard her say the L sound.

Development:
She has waved a lot more but not all the time.
She tries a lot more to dress and undress herself.
She likes to pick out her clothes. She will definitely shake her head no to some items.
She will also bring me her coat or shoes when she really wants to go outside. It's more of her shoes lately since it's been warmer.
She is learning to understand more and more words.
She's better at body parts and knows more of them.  Last month she knew head, ear, nose, foot, belly button, tummy, and leg. Now she knows toes. I tried knee but she didn't always get it.
She is close to learning how to put her shoes on. She knows to loosen the strap but doesn't quite line it up right. She can put my shoes on my feet though.
She can climb up onto couches without help.
She can also climb up into her high chair herself.
Now Ella doesn't steal the remotes but when she sees them she tries to put them back in the remote holder or give them to one of us.
Near the end of the month she started talking more. Saying ta, app, and el seem to be the newest sounds.
She learned to walk backwards and spin in a circle.
She can tap something or clap when asked.
She learned to climb up on her picnic table and flip over the couch.
Instead of just asking for help, she will sit down and scoot to get down a step.
She started peeing in the potty this month. Many days she doesn't pee at all anymore but at first she went 4 times in 1 day on it.
She will pick a specific color of ball when asked from a pile of dozens of balls.
She likes to hug Poly (who doesn't appreciate it).
She started to stack her rings this month and mostly get them into order.
She also started using her shape shorter even better.

She will bring us our shoes when we ask.
She started putting my socks in the hamper when I asked.

She learned to touch the iPad with 1 finger instead of just slapping with her entire hand.
She got super upset when Dave put her down on the ground at floor. (Very attached to us)
She started being able to go a couple hours without me without losing her mind.
When her nose was running, I was always wiping her nose. Then I taught her to blow her nose when I held the kleenex to it. Sometimes she wouldn't do it and would shake her head no. She found a kleenex on the floor one day and wiped her mouth with it so I just told her to blow her nose and she held it to her nose and blew. This impresses me a lot.
Other Tidbits:
Likes
Ella loves to lean in for a kiss.
She likes to push buttons. (Actual buttons but also likes to push my buttons. ha)
She loves Poly.
She loves to accomplish something new.
She likes to dance. She likes to dance to music videos. She likes to just watch music videos.
She likes to "share" but then takes it away. She isn't so good at letting go so you actually have to grab it.  She also likes to share for real.
She loves to visit her friends. She leans in to get kisses from them too.
She likes to swing. She likes to be thrown around. I think she likes all things that are like a dare devil.
She likes to drink out of all the other babies' cups. Even if her cup is similar, she wants whatever isn't hers.
She likes to ride on your shoulders. She also likes to be held upside down.
Ella likes to get things when you ask her to.
She REALLY loves books. She loves to be read to and loves to flip through the pages herself.
She likes to "read" while getting her diaper changed.
When eating, Ella likes to take her cup and stick it beside her in the chair. She loves pulling it back out to eat from it. Also if she doesn't like something, she moves it to the corner cupholder circle on the high chair tray.
She loves to do google+ hangouts and especially likes it when she gets to hold the phone herself.
She likes to get your shoes for you.
Dislikes
She hates when we close a gate. If we are on the same side as her or if we are on the opposite side, she hates it just the same.
She HATES being put in the pack n play when I shower.
She hates wanting to stay at the park when we have to leave.
She hates seeing her car and not going in it.
She just came up with something (but I didn't know what)

    1. That will be mentioned next month. If she did it 2 days earlier it would be on this post But that was impressive. I heard it from the other room.
