Ella 13 Month Update

Since the old monthly update posts took me hours to do, I'm cutting back.  I almost forgot to take pictures so we went outside quickly. Most of the pictures I took were blurry because Ella was on the move.

Stats:
  • Weight: 20 lb 7 oz
  • Height: 32.7 inches
  • Head Circumference: 17.8 inches
  • Diapers: Size 3
  • Total Teeth: 7
  • Clothing: Disney 6-9 month, Steelers 6-9 month or Steelers 3-6 month with a onesie extender, Leveret 12-18 mo onesies or 6-12 mo with a onesie extender.  Carter's 12 month dresses and 12 mo onesies. For actual pants she wears 18 month pants. She's been wearing 12-24 month socks for a while now. There are many shirts that are too wide. I lengthened some 12 month shirts that are still too wide but I needed to add 2-3" of length to them. Carter's 12 month long sleeve shirts have recently turned into belly shirts
  • Weight/Length percentile: 4% (WHO) or 0.4% (CDC)
These measurements were all taken 1 day late.

Sleep
She started taking 2 naps again sometimes and taking a 30 min or so nap on a run or just in general in the morning. I guess she wanted more sleep.  Her second nap or her only nap last about 2 hours.

Eating
She eats food and baby snacks probably 3-5 times a day.  She eats a lot of foods that we eat. She loves to feed herself.  When we went to restaurants she'd eat the entire time. She'd start with snacks or food we brought and then share our food. She was so behaved.  I feel like she still nurses a ton and she doesn't eat actual food nearly enough.  She doesn't work plates or bowls so well. Also sometimes she'll hold the spoon or fork and then eat with her other hand.

She won't drink milk from a cup (cow's milk is worse than pumped). I'm trying to wean and failing.

Sample Schedule:
Her schedule is less consistent.  She wakes up around 6:30 daily with a few days at 7 and some days at 6.  Sometimes she neaps at 10ish on a run or at home. That may last 30 min or 2 hours. If it's 2 hours she doesn't nap again. If it's shorter, she naps again starting anywhere from 2 to 4.

She snacks and eats a lot more food because I'm trying to wean her from nursing. The times are inconsistent.

She nurses after she wakes up most of the time and before she goes to sleep again.  I was trying to have her take a cup of milk after her nap but that failed miserably.

Special Moments:
On December 22, she picked the correct colors 8 of 10 times when I held up 2 and asked her to pick a certain one.  Then the following day she was 5 for 5  then got some wrong. Then later was 8 for 8.
On December 26, she had her first kids meal and it was at Chick-fil-a.
On January 2, she got her first diaper rash.
On January 4, she got her 7th tooth.
On January 6, she opened the lid to the kitchen garbage and took stuff out. (She continues to do this!)
On January 7, she learned how to unzip leftovers.
On January 8, she had some of her first spaghetti sandwich.   Later she properly made a sandwich with bread on the outside and everything using her toy sandwich maker set.
On January 8th or 9th, she started shaking her head to "some people."
On January 10, she threw up ALL over me.
On January 11, she was chasing Poly and Dave woke up and asked "Are you chasing Poly?" and she stops and turns and says "Yea."
On January 13, she spent 2.5 hours at Gio's/Lily's while I was home resting.
On January 20, she tumbled off the bed after Dave got up!

Development:
She has waved more times but not all the time.   Her goodbye wave is quite delayed. But at least she's consistently waving bye even if it is delayed.  Sometimes she waves early while we are walking outside to say bye.
She shakes her head no and nods quite often.
Dave was complaining and said "Some people" and shook his head and Ella shook hers. Now if we say "some people" she shakes her head.
She picks out her clothes and PJs from 2 or 3 choices all the time.  Sometimes she brings me her shoes and then walks to the front door wanting to go somewhere.
Ella has expanded her ability to reach things on tables and couches.
She has started walking a lot and pretty far but only far if she doesn't think we are watching.
She started standing a lot on her own even if we were watching.
She now signs more, all done, and milk. Those are the only 3 I've taught her so I guess I should do more.
She loves ketchup but can't dip yet. She just uses her finger on the ketchup pile.
She started identifying colors when prompted.
She stopped putting all things in her mouth around Christmas and continued to not do it.
We put Ella's ipod (music toy) into her crib with her and she's much better at not crying at all when going to sleep. She plays music a lot.  She does have a few days here or there where she cries a lot but she is much better.
She is learning to understand more and more words.  For example we were on a google+ hangout but the sound wasn't working so we were also on the phone. I took the phone into the kitchen to do something and Ella was playing. My mom said "look behind you" so she could see my mom versus hearing her and she looked behind her!
She knows her body parts sometimes. She knows tummy and leg a lot but still only taps the body part half the time I talk. Most times she does nothing. Every once in a great while she will tap the wrong thing. She has done foot and head but I don't ask those as much since I start with tummy or leg every time. If she gets it wrong she gets so shy and turns around and hides.

Other Tidbits:
Likes
Ella loves her new shopping cart.
She likes to play with her toys more if they are neat. But then she messes them up right away.
She loves Poly.
She loves to accomplish something new.
She likes to dance. She likes to dance to music videos. She likes to just watch music videos. I haven't turned them on as much this month so then it's a real treat when they are on.
She loves peek-a-boo. She likes to cover her face and you say "Where's Ella?" and then she uncovers her face and you say "There she is" or "There's Ella" and she gets so excited. If you cover your own face with a blanket and say "Where's Mommy?" she will uncover you and get so excited.
She likes to clap!
She likes to hold onto someone's hand and walk around. Sometimes she likes to walk without holding onto anything.
She likes to "share" but then takes it away. She isn't so good at letting go so you actually have to grab it.
She loves to visit her buddies (friends). When we are going out to the car if I tell her we are seeing her buddies she gets all excited.  She gives hugs and kisses to her buddies when leaving too!
She especially likes if she crosses a barrier like getting into the hallway. Then she giggles like she knows something is up.
She likes to close the gate and laugh. If I'm in the kitchen she's a lot better being in the living room if the gate is open. Sometimes she comes over and closes and opens the gate though.
She likes to talk and smile at us.
She loves to squeal really loud when she's close to Poly. (This scares Poly away so then Poly doesn't get her fur pulled.)
She still loves to eat paper and kleenexes.
She likes to swing. She likes to be thrown around. I think she likes all things that are like a dare devil. She also loves the slide.
She likes to accomplish something new and then she gets so excited.
She likes to drink out of all the other babies' cups. Even if her cup is similar, she wants whatever isn't hers.
She likes to ride on your shoulders. She also likes to be held upside down.
Ella likes to get things when you ask her to.
She REALLY loves books. She loves to be read to and loves to flip through the pages herself.
She likes to "read" while getting her diaper changed.
When eating, Ella likes to take her cup and stick it beside her in the chair. She loves pulling it back out to eat from it. Also if she doesn't like something, she moves it to the corner cupholder circle on the high chair tray.
Ella enjoys walking around.
She loves to do google+ hangouts and especially likes it when she gets to hold the phone herself.

Dislikes
She dislikes playing by herself when I'm the only one home with her.
She hates it when I put her down to do anything.
She hates when she sees my phone but I won't let her have it.

    1. Those outdoor pictures were so impromptu. The wagon was used because it was outside! Overall we spent maybe 3 minutes taking pictures.

  3. Wow, I think she's already taller than Neil or getting there! No wonder she's wearing the same size pants. Neil is two and still tends to eat with his hands instead of silverware so I think that's normal. (Or else Neil is behind who knows).

Additional signs- you can try please and thank you. Neil learned those at a pretty young age and now he's good about verbally saying please and thank you. ("Please" often takes prompting but he follows with "Thank you" very well).

    1. Ella's friend Gio was using silverware when I ate with him when he was about 13 months old BUT he hates when food touches his fingers and always wants them wiped off so that could be why.

I'm trying to get her to say "eat" instead of just "milk" anytime she wants to eat or drink but she hasn't done it yet. I only started 3 days ago though.

I also want her to try to tell me she wants to sleep but that will never happen!
