Color Rotation Summary

I didn't go all out this time around and make everything black and white besides the color I was wearing. Most of the time, I didn't even mention that I was wearing a particular color. I did in fact finish the challenge though.  I  had 2 days in there that I didn't get dressed so I skipped though.  One workout clothes day didn't fit in either. Originally I wasn't going to count any workout clothes days but having a week off work would have made this challenge take forever. I also had to miss a day when I had to wear the same black shirt and black pants 2 days in a row. I already was unhappy about using an orange necklace for orange on the first day.

I didn't really learn much new this time around besides every time I wanted to wear a pattern, it incorporated purple even though the day before was my "purple" day so then I had to try to switch it up.

I realized how much I like pink in this challenge. I knew I liked it before but didn't know how much.  I always knew I liked red.  Orange and yellow were still a challenge.

During this challenge I wore a few things I hadn't worn in years and used it as my deciding factor to get rid of said thing.  I will be getting rid of the blue sweater in the first round.

What did you think about seeing Color Rotation?

Color Rotation Challenge

It's Color Rotation Challenge time again.  I did it in October of 2010 and March-April 2011. It all started because I noticed I would wear the same colors all the time or go a few days in a row wearing one color and then move onto the next color for a few days.

The Rules are simple but I also have an entire post about it last March.
The Rules:
  1. Rotate colors in your closet (1, 2, or 3 times)
  2. Don't repeat the specific articles of clothing.
Goals:
  1. Wear a wide variety of clothes in your closet
  2. Wear a variety of colors in your closet.
I will be using the same rotation that I did in March. I will also skip days that I stay in my pajamas all day or days that I stay in my workout clothes all day. If a holiday fits in or something I may swap a color.

    Things it helps with
    1. Ruts: It helps you stay out of ruts you can get in when getting dressed.
    2. Speed: Focusing on a particular color decreases the amount of time it takes to pick out your clothes for the day.
    3. Veterans: Having to rotate helps you break out some veteran items from your closet.
    4. Accountability and Accomplishment: If you say you will do a challenge, you follow through and feel accomplished at the end.
    5. Remixing: It helps you remix items better so that you don't wear your favorite cardigan on the day of the color or else it would be out of your rotation for the rest of the challenge.

Join me in Color Rotation Challenge.  Last time there were 7 of us that participated. I'm hoping for more this time.

Please comment if you sign up because I'm not sure if the link up is working.

    Color Rotation 2nd Edition Summary

Above are my favorite outfits from the challenge. (Funny how 2 outfits are almost identical.) If you want to see all the photos, check out my summaries of rounds 1, 2, or 3.

What was your overall perception of Color Rotation?  Even if you did not participate, did you like seeing more colors or did you incorporate more colors into your wardrobe?

I learned a lot and this challenge was more challenging than I thought it would be.

What I liked about the rotation

    1. Picking out clothes was easier.
    2. I didn't get in a neutrals rut
    3. I didn't get in a red rut.
    4. The rotation helps me wear old clothes that don't get remixed enough.
    5. Mixing colors makes me happier than wearing a lot of neutrals

What I didn't like about the rotation

    1. It seemed to last forever.
    2. Sometimes I wanted to wear a certain color but it wasn't time for that yet.
    3. Sometimes the weather made me want to wear certain colors or not wear colors and I had to resist the urge.

    Color Rotation Articles Worn:
    1. Light pick button down shirt (2007)
    2. Red Cardigan (2010)

    Color Rotation Round 3

Now I've been done for over a week but got very behind in posting.
This is the 3rd run through of all the colors. You can see round 1here and round 2 here.
I wore the blue outfit before but this time with a different necklace and adding a belt. I like this way better.  You can also see the detail of the back of the skirt on that old post.
For some reason green is my favorite.  I really like a few other ones.  Pink is my lease favorite because I've done that before. I've done the exact combination with the purple dress before but all other combinations are new in some way.  I have worn the gold sweater before with that same combination but previous times I have belted the cardigan so this was new.

    Which is your favorite?
What is one thing you would change up to remix it next time? (I'm looking for ideas.)

    Color Rotation Round 2

This is the 2nd run through of all the colors. You can see round 1 here.
Orange and purple are my favorites. Which ones are yours?
3 skirts and 3 jeans and 2 with dress pants. all interesting to me. The first round had 3 skirts, 2 jeans, and 3 dress pants. I have been trying to wear more of my clothes. My navy pants are what I have been working on this time. For the 30 for 30, I tried to work on wearing my tan skirt more.  Next I need to work on not wearing jeans so much.

My least favorite day was yellow and I think it is because of the wedges. I seem to hate skirt with flats on me for some reason.

Mainly I need to work on quitting changing into my yoga pants so early in the day.
I change into them because I'm putting on a few lbs and it mostly goes to my love handles and gut and then my pants that were already pretty tight just don't like to be stretched.

So did you notice that a few pictures are different in the black at one versions as in the total color versions?

    Color Rotation Round 1

    Color Rotation:
    1. Light pick button down shirt
    2. Red Cardigan
    3. Orange Tee
    4. Yellow Loft Tee
    5. Dark Green Express Sweater
    6. Blue and Red Striped Sweater
    7. Purple Short Sleeve Loft Tee
    8. Black and white print skirt
I think I like the purple or the pattern outfit the best?  What about you?  I like pink the least. I look like I go straight down instead of having a figure.  I  like that at least 1 of the 8 was taken at a different photo location.

Oh I guess I'll make it easier and show you the actual outfits in another collage.

    Day 2 - Red (3.16.11)

     Day 2 = Red
Pants: Gap, Shirt: NY&Co, Cardigan: Express, Shoes: JCP, Necklace: Sears, Belt and Earrings: Target
I got a compliment on my outfit today. I also got a compliment on my shoes.  Therefore today = win.
I picked out my clothes last night then got out my color coach to see if I did a good job and according to it, I did.
I got my shoes out and Poly immediately sat in the lid.
I put on makeup and Poly played with my jewelry choices. She stopped so I couldn't catch her in the act.

    Poly is a perfect angel.

Someone had to do something to my computer so I got to half clean my desk.
Well last night I went to sleep so I didn't do the work I brought home. I thought I would wake up early to get started on it early. That didn't happen. So then I thought if I just didn't get sucked in with email I would have it done by lunch. Well I got sucked in by email and helping people and didn't even start working on it by lunch. I swear I barely had anything left to do too.   So when I finally started working on it again this afternoon, I figured it was already later than I wanted it so I might as well update all the data in addition to fixing up all the graphs.  Well that was a mistake. It takes forever. I forgot I had to add columns to the exports and do a lot of manual manipulation.
We had an NA-YGN meeting at lunch. After the meeting, there were a lot of snacks left. I was with the last 3 people in the room so we took them. I had a bag and they did not so I got the most. We left 20 drinks behind. We paid for it so I figured we might as well get it instead of the vultures who come down to steal the food.  My bag was stuffed and overflowing. I had to walk about a half mile back to my cube. I got a lot of weird looks on the way.  Oh I was also carrying 2 bags because they would fall out while I was walking.  Someone said they liked my style.  I guess next time I should bring a backpack that holds more. If I bring a bigger bag, there won't be any extra food. That's how it works out.

I got to work at 7:55. I meant to work my 9 hours and then hit up the gym to run 7 miles.  Instead I worked until 7.  I even ordered take-out at 6:30 and got distracted and didn't even leave.  When you leave work as late as I do, the rugs are rolled up and pushed against the door. It is quite the tripping hazard. At least today I had on pants. When I wear a skirt, sometimes the pencil skirt limits my stride enough to almost not step over the roll.

Because of my silly decision to redo the trending to make it up to date, now I have even more work to do. I need to do it tonight.
While I was still at work I texted Dave saying I was hungry. A few minutes later he asked me what was for dinner.  I sent him the above picture. He didn't appreciate it. The more I snacked, the later I would be.  We got Jimmy Wan's. I ate it while watching Undercover Boss.  Now we are watching American Idol.  I want dessert but am not in the mood for any food. But I want something sweet. Ugh.
    Poly went in her bag.
American Idol took too long. Now it is 10 and I didn't even start working.  I have been in bed playing gameboy by 10 the last few nights.  Eek now it is 10:45 and all I did was try to add photos to this post.

Yay I can add more than 1 picture at a time to my posts. It wasn't working for entirely too long.

If you are joining in late, leave a comment and I'll add you to the list.

    Day 1 - Pink (3.15.11)

    Color Rotation Starts today.
Skirt: Kohl's (at least 5 years ago) (a pic from 4 years ago)
    Shirt: NY&Co
    Cami: Costco
    Necklace: Charlotte Russe
    Shoes: Famous Footwear
    Earrings: Kohl's
    Ring: Lia Sophia

I had a lot of trouble getting the skirt/shirt to work. I started untucked. I thought maybe I could add a belt. Nothing seemed to work right. My figure looks straight down but really I'm pretty curvy so I don't think I liked this combination.

I thought I would break out of my comfort zone with a necklace and go over to my color wheel. Well the pink was lighter than pretty in pink so I got my color coach out and used the lighter pink and then saw that my necklace was a lot like sage shadow so I wore it. What do you think?  Now the third color on the color coach was more of a brown/tan versus a black. Oh well.

These pictures are the worst. I went outside and saw some construction workers two doors down. I hate when people see me taking my picture but knew I had to take it. I just took a couple to be done. When I set up my tripod there were 3 guys. After taking my picture, I looked over as I was hurrying to my tripod and I saw over 10 guys just standing there looking at me.  I was on edge during all the pictures and have the worst expression on my face.
I had all kinds of nice ideas for things to do with this skirt to get nice pictures but instead I quickly tried this and failed because my face has a people are watching me look to it.
(If you want to see how I did the coloring above, check out my tutorial.)

I'll make a post later of the remixers so far.

Grab the banner or button if you are participating. You can join at any time and just start with red tomorrow. Here are the rules.

Work was insanely busy with not even real work things but with NA-YGN things.  I got a card through internal mail today just thanking me for being a good friend! I always feel like I should send cards like that but never do. Then I went running with someone that I had just been emailing with. Not to worry it was at least a coworker so I wasn't concerned.  We slowly ran in the rain. I'll have a separate post about that later.

Right now my hair is in a towel from my shower and I didn't eat dinner yet so I better get going. I was hungry at 4:00 and it's 8 and I didn't eat yet.

Color Rotation Challenge - Join Me

    The Rules:
    1. Rotate colors in your closet (1, 2, or 3 times)
    2. Don't repeat the specific articles of clothing
    Goals:
    1. Wear a wide variety of clothes in your closet
    2. Wear a variety of colors in your closet.
Color Rotation means that you will rotate the colors of the rainbow plus a pattern. It allows you to wear a variety of things and helps you get out of a rut of wearing the same color all the time (currently I wear red half the time). I did this challenge in October and included neutrals but decided against that this time.

The plan is to rotate the colors. I will be starting with pink and continue with the following rotation: pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and then any pattern. I tend to wear solids too much so I added patterns to my mix. You can do whatever you want here.

I will be going through this rotation three times but you can go through it only once if you want. You can also start now and rotate through all your clothes until you are out. Whatever works for you.   As an example, here's what round 1 looked like last time. Note how colorful it looks.
    1. Rotate colors
    2. Don't repeat clothes if you wore them for that color but say you wear black pants with a red shirt for red then you can repeat the black pants. It also fits if you have cardigans and are wearing a few colors. (This outfit would work for red or for black in the rotation as an example.)
    3. You don't have to be monochromatic. Just make sure you include the designated color somehow that day.
    4. Variations of colors work. Don't stick to colors in a crayon box. Coral, teal, turquoise, burgundy, sapphire, etc can all fit into a certain color. So make it work however you want.
    5. If you have something special, you need to wear a certain outfit for, you can skip a day or two. Really do whatever you want. It's just for fun.
Who is in? If you want to join, place my banner on your blog and link up below. I'm excited. I hope you are too.  I'm starting March 15. That will give you time to get your ducks in a row if you want to start on the same day.

I'm not counting shoes or necklaces. Those can be repeated.

At the end I will, of course, have a follow-up post on what I learned like I did for the 30 for 30.

Grab the banner or button and then link up if you are participating.

January 29 - Outfit and Upcoming Happenings

    Shirt: VS
    Cami: Target
    Jeans: Express
Shoes: Zappos (probably... I had my husband order me them)

Even though it was cold, I went with comfort for all day scrapbooking.
Also I think I went with some bright colors for when I scrapbook those pictures that I can do more fun colors instead of using blue all the time.
Starting February 1, I will be participating in another one of Kendi's 30 for 30 challenges. I have already done this twice. I feel like I just ended one and it is time for another.  Since everyone starts that February 1, I figure I will start my Color Rotation Challenge March 15. A few people said they would join the challenge this time around so I hope they do.  The thing is last time I went pink, red, orange, yellow , green, blue, purple, white, gray, black, brown as the rotation. I learned that was too many neutrals. This time I will do 1 neutral and just call it neutral day so you can choose what you want to do then and I might add different forms of colors and add teal or light blue. I also thought of adding a pattern after purple to force some pattern in the mix. Patterns count as part of a certain color day like the outfit above could have been worn on purple day.
What do you think should be part of the mix this time? Now is your chance to give some input.

    Day 32 - Black (11/2)

    Shirt: Work
    Mostly hidden shirt: Express
    Pants: Express
    Shoes: Littles

I spent Monday night at my parents and when I got dressed I forgot to put in my jewelry.

For the first part of the day I helped with Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.  Then I drove towards my house, voted, and went home.  I then worked from home longer than I should have.
    We made pancakes for dinner.
    Poly stole Dave's seat
I spent the entire evening cutting paper for my Stampin' Up Class
Poly was constantly in my way
I was up until 12:30 cutting paper for the class.
I still felt half sick. It was an extremely long day for not being sick and super long for being sick.  Mind you I also had to wake up extra early to leave the house by 6:15 to get to the 2nd day of Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.  Lack of sleep is not good when you are sick.

Now I thought this was the last day of my Color Rotation Challenge.  There are two things about that. Brown is really the last day. I just realized this now. Also I planned to redo gray with my 2nd shirt for IGE Day.  So Gray would have me in presentable attire.
Being sick really put a damper on me posting.  I still almost got one post a day but just not the posts that I wanted to do.

Being sick sucks.  Being sick sucks extra because I don't get to work out.

For those curious what Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day is I will explain it.  Our company puts on this event. It is a 2 day event.  We invite all the high schools in the area.  Each school can bring 4 juniors.  We put on different presentations about engineering and they do different activities to show them what engineering is. It introduces them to it (hence the name).  Teachers bring them.  Some home schoolers actually participate too.  The day ends with a career panel where the kids can ask any questions they want. They are trying to match each person with the profession.  They can also ask any questions they want.  I was on the career panel this year for the first time.  The kids couldn't guess which profession was me.  They guessed quality engineer for every other person first.    I also lead the mechanisms activity. I have lead that activity for 5 years.  This is the first year I didn't participate in the Bay activity. That activity is where the kids make a "machine" to receive foreign material out of the steam generator.  The foreign material is a candy bar. The machine is made out of things like a hanger, plunger, container, duct tape, dowel rod, and other random materials.  We do this event for 2 days and each year roughly 80 students get the opportunity to participate.

11/1/10 - Gray but swapping it out for later

I actually showered and changed clothes.  Into different pajamas. I made sure they included gray but I'm swapping it out for the Gray I wore Wednesday in my overall Summary.
Shirt: Fall Crawl free T-shirt September 1995
    Hoodie: Walmart during college.
Pants: VS Yoga pants but not the folderover kind.  The foldover kind are much better.
    Poly still kept me company.
I did not go to work.
I was a vegetable pretty much the entire day. I did exhaust myself taking a few pictures of inside my closet so then I knew I couldn't do any of that.  I was so sick that I wasn't even jagging around* at my computer all day.
I told my husband white day was yesterday. He wore black the day before. I told him he was all messed up. He disagreed with my statement saying the challenge should be to just wear what is on top in the drawer without questioning it or wondering if it matches the shorts/pants that were on top.
*Jagging around is Pittsburgeeze for clowning around or messing around.  When I used the phrase above, did anyone know or not know what it meant?  I actually usually say it jaggin' without the g.

    Day 30 - White (10/30/10)

I cheated.  The covers are white.  I just knew I'd be sick for days.

Covers: White from JCP - Wedding registry
    Shirt: my elementary school
Hoodie: so old that I forget
    Pants: VS

Dave cooked me eggs and toast for breakfast and brought it up to me I was so sick.k
He brought a chair and snack table in so he could enjoy his lunch with me.
Poly hung out with me all day. She was nice. She napped with me.
I wish I had frozen chicken noodle soup.  I did not.  Dave got us KFC.
So don't I look sick.   Dave gave me the suggestion and I listened.  The suggestion was carrying a bag around with my necessities like Vaseline so my nose didn't get so raw.  I liked that suggestion. I also carried around KenKen even though i don't think I used it.
This would not be a post but the color rotation must go on and had to finish before the 30 for 30 and also before I had to spend days wearing a certain shirt at work.
