Ella 14 Month Update

Stats:
  • Weight: 20 lb 6 oz (1 oz less because she was sick for a week!)
  • Height: 32.7 inches (32 inches standing)
  • Head Circumference: 17.9 inches
  • Diapers: Size 3
  • Total Teeth: 8
  • Clothing: Carter's  9 and 12 month dresses and 12 mo or 18 mo tops. For pants she wears 18 month pants. She's been wearing 12-24 month socks for a while now. Some shirts are still too wide. Some are too short too. She's still wearing 12 month onesies mostly. She would probably still fit into her Disney 6-9 mo onesies but I have so many new things I haven't put her in them.  She's wearing 12 mo and 18 month Gerber onesies.
  • Weight/Length percentile: 2% (WHO) or 0.1% (CDC)
Baby center provides the following stats:
Length = above percentile 95Weight = between percentile 10 and 25Head Circumference = between percentile 25 and 50

Sleep
Sleep has been really messed up the past week with her cold. Still overall she has been taking one nap but it's been a lot harder to get her to sleep this past week.  Her nap is roughly 2 hours.  There were a couple days this month she only napped for a half hour all day.

Eating
She finally discovered tilting her head back to use a sippy cup so she likes to do that. Eating was all the same as past months except the past week when she doesn't want to eat at all.  OK maybe it wasn't all the same. She's so picky and refuses foods a lot. She just doesn't seem to want food a lot even when I break out her favorites.  This month she went from an angel at restaurants to tantrums or just not behaving. She doesn't want to be confined or she doesn't want the food.

I really want to wean and that is failing miserably. Then she got sick and could barely breath while nursing so she'd only nurse 2 minutes at a time and I'd let her nurse on demand. Nursing on demand was over 20 times a day for many days in a row! She's discovered new nursing positions. Once I was lying on the couch and she just came over and got to nursing. I was going to elaborate but that's probably TMI as it is.

Sample Schedule:
Her schedule is about the same. I have been working on nursing less but it only works when we are busy and when she is not sick. Beyond that the schedule is the same.

Special Moments:
On January 21, Dave asked Ella if she wanted him to put her in her high chair. She shook her head no. Then I asked and she nodded and walked to me.  Clearly she understands.
On January 23, Ella played in the sand and barely ate any.
On January 24 she signed for milk!
On January 25, Ella went under my desk to retrieve my phone for me!
On January 26, she put her rings back on the base.
On January 27, I put that she's been an expert walker the past few days!
On January 30, she used her stool to climb up on the couch unprompted by us.
On January 31, she had a bad temper tantrum wanting Gio's water.
On February 1, Ella learned to play with Poly with a straw.
On February 3, we went to our first story time. It was also the first time Ella fell back to sleep when I was taking her out of the car. She slept through the entire story time. That's only the second time ever she fell asleep on me out in public.
On February 4, she went from sitting to standing in the middle of the floor. She didn't need anything to pull up on to stand.  She also pushed the baa sound in the book and later mood with the book.
On February 5, she bit her lip and it bled. Maybe she fell. This was at the park.
On February 6, she fell and we aren't even sure what she hit but she had a cut above her eye that was pretty bad. Poor baby.
On February 9, she stood up on the middle of the floor with a book this time. She improves so quickly.  She learned "cheers" in 2 minutes.  She also carries the animal cracker container around to get people to give her some.
On February 10, she had her first donut. She had cake and raised.  She climbed up onto the couch without a stool!  She got her 8th tooth. She has it anyway. It might have been there for a bit. Now that other teeth are so big it's hard to see the new ones.
On February 11, she popped her first balloon. She still loves balloons and was not phased. She popped it by biting it!
On February 14, she got a cold. It lasted over a week (still going on).
On February 15, while using her 100 first words book we ask her where things are and she touches the flap for them. Well we asked her "Where's the jam?" and she starts jamming. She should have pointed to the jelly/jam jar.
On February 17, Ella put on my shirt. She took it out of the closet and put it on. It was inside out though so she had issues with her arms.  She learned to flush the toilet. Then she did it 3 times.
On February 19, she put on my shirt again. This time I helped her so it wasn't inside out and then she got her arms through. I told her it was too big so I helped her get her hands out of the sleeves quite a few times.  She had a blast wearing it and walking around the house. This is the shirt she always picks out for me to wear so I guess she really does like it.
On February 20, Ella went to the doctors since she had her cold/cough for a week. She stood on the scale and stood for her height for the first time.  She really learned to tilt her head to use a sippy cup and loves her new discovery.

Development:
She has waved more times but not all the time.   It's odd how she can learn other things in 2 minutes but doesn't have waving down.
Now in addition to shaking her head for "some people" she shakes her fist when we say "why I oughta," and does cheers with a cup.  We've also expanded high five to do high five and "give me five."
She tries a lot more to dress and undress herself.
She will also bring me her coat when she really wants to go outside. She has learned she gets a coat on when she goes out so she wants to start that process.
She's become an expert walker.
She identifies colors when prompted sometimes. She won't do it for an audience or if she's afraid she'll get it wrong.
She is learning to understand more and more words. One example is I was asking her if she wanted to go see Lily and I didn't even think she was paying attention. She got up and I didn't know where she went. I checked and she was at the front door ready to leave.  Then I told her we weren't ready yet and had to get her things ready to go. She left the front door and got her water and went back to the front door.  We do always take water with us when we go!
She's better at body parts but still will touch her leg for tummy or vice versa. Now she can do head every time. She does ear, nose, and foot sometimes too. It's funny when I ask her where her Pittsburgh gut is and she points.
She has learned to actually pet Poly. She's gotten better and not squealing really loudly when she sees her too. (We had to work on the squealing because it was stressing Poly out.)
She learned how to take take "selfies" with her toy phone. Dave taught her this. She even pushes the button that is the camera sound.
Ella learned how to take the velcro off her shoes and sometimes takes off her shoes.
She learned how to pop off the puffs container lids (this might have been for a few months now) but now she has expanded that to lids to all kinds of containers.  She can put lids back on too.  I've caught her with the pretzel container lid off with her eating the pretzels a few times.  She took my vaseline lid off and when she saw me catching her, she put the lid right back on.
On a few occasions, Ella actually used her shape sorter.  She put the correct shape in the correct hole. She tries it in the wrong holes first too. It's great to watch but if she sees you watching she quits.
We've started playing outside in our backyard this month. Ella loves just walking around and checking everything out. She also loves sitting on the adult chairs.
Where's your leg?
Where's your ear?

Other Tidbits:
Likes
Ella likes to push buttons. (Actual buttons but also likes to push my buttons. ha)
She loves Poly.
She loves to accomplish something new.
She likes to dance. She likes to dance to music videos. She likes to just watch music videos.
She likes to "share" but then takes it away. She isn't so good at letting go so you actually have to grab it.
She loves to visit her buddies (friends). When we are going out to the car if I tell her we are seeing her buddies she gets all excited.  She gives hugs and kisses to her buddies when leaving too!
She likes to talk and smile at us.
She likes to swing. She likes to be thrown around. I think she likes all things that are like a dare devil. She also loves the slide.
She likes to drink out of all the other babies' cups. Even if her cup is similar, she wants whatever isn't hers.
She likes to ride on your shoulders. She also likes to be held upside down.
Ella likes to get things when you ask her to.
She REALLY loves books. She loves to be read to and loves to flip through the pages herself.
She likes to "read" while getting her diaper changed.
When eating, Ella likes to take her cup and stick it beside her in the chair. She loves pulling it back out to eat from it. Also if she doesn't like something, she moves it to the corner cupholder circle on the high chair tray.
Ella enjoys walking around.
She loves to do google+ hangouts and especially likes it when she gets to hold the phone herself.

Dislikes
She hates when we close a gate. If we are on the same side as her or if we are on the opposite side, she hates it just the same.
She HATES being put in the pack n play when I shower.

These pictures were taken 1 day late. Ella picked out the dress.  I couldn't work in the office so I couldn't make collages so you have more separate pictures this month.
