The visible aluminum parts are oxidized (cylinder heads, intake manifold, carburetor). They need polished. Just to polish those 3 pieces to show car shine/quality would take over 30 hours.

Not to mention, there is a fine layer of dirt and grime on some of the engine block itself and also on the inner parts of the fenders and inner wheel well. That would be the easiest to clean, taking 2 hours max. This would also be the first step.

Another thing that needs done to get the engine bay to show car quality is the condition of the paint in the engine bay. Since the fenders and hood were off a different Camaro (1980), there are bits of paint chipped off in the engine compartment showing the original red color. Those need re-painted (by myself, not someone like barry) to match the black in the rest of the engine compartment. To do this correctly (after everything has been cleaned), it would take about 5-10 hours to prep, prime, sand, and paint, though the actual process would be spread over several days to allow everything to set properly.

I do plan to clean the engine bay to show car quality, but as you can see it would take a minimum of one week with me working 8 hours a day. It's on the list, but will certainly take a lot of time. However, I'll take plenty of pictures when I do finally start that project, which should actually be some time this month. And it will look beautiful when it's done. Trust me. Just commenting on this post created enough incentive to start the cleaning.
