Merry Christmas 2022

Here's a screen shot of the card I made this year.  I didn't make a lot of versions. Since it is cheaper to do a greeting card than the 5x7 prints I used to do, now I don't have a nice saved version.

Running Milestone (12.21.22)

I did it! I have now run more total time in 2022 than any other year. I already bypassed the mileage but now I also did time! 2015 was more fun than this year. This year I get mad runs are cut short or it takes me hours to leave the house. In 2015 I ran with friends and pushed a stroller . I mostly ran when Dave was at work while pushing Ella who loved the stroller. I would go on some weekends bright and early in the morning to get a long run in too.

I have a lot of runs this year since I did a 100 day run streak. I ran 1 mile a lot of days which lessoned my average miles per run but overall it was very beneficial. The short treadmill runs that were quick helped my speed a lot.   This is my best pace since having kids.  I know I ran faster in 2015 but I spent a lot of time running with others which slowed my pace. But easy runs + fast runs helped me be faster overall. I couldn't run a half marathon as fast now as I did in 2015.  Maybe next year.

New Shelves (2022)

In September and October, we built shelves. It way longer than I expected. It was hard with all the kid interruptions.

Now it's been done for 2 months and I still barely have containers in there. The little support blocks actually make it more difficult to put containers in and out. Also it's pretty deep so other things fit.  It's so hot in there or humid so all the taped on labels or sticker labels have fallen off so it makes it fun to try to find what I need. I think I'll do what Beth told me she did and just write with sharpie on the lid on the few things that will always be in the containers.

I actually had 18 minutes of video so I trimmed a bunch to include just different steps.

I took notes every step of the way with what time we did things or stopped for the day. I didn't look at it when recording voice over and I still haven't looked at it since the day I wrote it. I should take pics of it though.

2022 Week 1/52 photo

Every weekend, I do laundry. I do a ton and separate it by person and then also towels. I find it easier to sort first then just fold each person separately. Liam likes to hang out in bed and watch TV while I do it. He always climbs under the covers when he does it.

Note those little laundry baskets are perfect to have each kid have one.

100 day run streak

I made it 100 days of a run streak. A lot of treadmill miles. I ran at least a mile a day. Lots of days lately have been just a mile with so many house projects going on. I ran 233.17 miles in 100 days. That's an average of 2.33 miles per day! My average pace was 10:03. 36 runs were treadmill runs! I was pushing a stroller during 13 of those runs. I ran 2 5k races and 1 10k timed trial. I ran at least 3 times when I shouldn't have just to not miss run streak days.

At first i might switch up the incline on the treadmill or did some various hill ones where you change incline but then I started just running all the time at incline 2 since the treadmill was less noisy at that incline. I tend to try to set the treadmill speeds faster to get them over with since I was just running to do 1 mile.

I really wanted to hit 80 miles in August and failed and then I thought for sure I would in September and failed again.

The poor air quality made it really hard to hit 20 miles in a week which is what I wanted.

Perrigo Parkrun 5k (10/1/22)

I decided to do a 5k since it was just my birthday. It's my 2nd Parkrun 5k. I ran my first just over a month earlier on August 27. The course was different this time. It has a different start and finish but you just entered where you run around the ball fields differently and exit differently. That didn't stop the course from being slightly short though.

I wanted to improve and I did!

I was late just like last time. I really need to get out of the house quicker.

I thought I did better for women but apparently some passed me at the turn around and I never noticed.

The weather was almost perfect. It was a great temperature and a little sunny. Last time it was cloudy.

I noticed results posted online before I even noticed the email with my results.

Perrigo parkrun results for event #107. Your time was 00:25:44.
Congratulations on completing your 2nd parkrun and your 2nd at Perrigo parkrun today. You finished in 27th place and were the 5th Female out of a field of 70 parkrunners and you came 1st in your age category VW35-39. Take a look at this week's full set of results on our website. Congratulations on setting a new Personal Best at this event! Congratulations on your fastest time this year.
You achieved an age-graded score of 59.07%. For an explanation of age-grading, please see the WAVA age grading overview.

I did better than last time but had a worse place.  I did better by almost a minute but the course was shorter.  I am still surprised how well I did even though I also feel like I could have run harder.

My mile splits were different in all the apps. I made a summary graphic in instagram to show all of them.

I had water with me and forgot to drink any during the race.  I drank it after and also drank a little more in the car.  I was about as late as late time. Maybe even more late since they started talking about the race before I showed up.   Last time my Garmin was set to easy run and this time stride repeats so I never actually had mile splits on the Garmin as I ran.  I set my app to run:walk intervals of 1:30-0:15 but then I didn't ever walk on them. I did walk 2 or 3 times during the race.

I actually knew where the PR bell was this time so I went to ring it and someone offered to take my picture. Here she was offering everyone. She used my phone to take it so then I had that to make my graphics.  The course was shorter but I still would have beat my last time based on pace.   According to NRC the average pace went form 8:38 to 8:22 (and the course was .05 shorter)

Next time I need to leave before 8:37. It's too close to 9 am. I went a different way. GPS told me to go a different way but I just followed along. I liked the way last time better. I came home a different way than I came home last time and I liked last time's better too.

I'm surprised I was 5th for females since I only thought I saw 2 ahead of me. I guess I didn't pay enough attention.  There were 70 total runners this time and 69 last time.

I'm way in the back ground of this photo. I'm in a few way back like that but then when I got close, I wasn't in any.

CA to WA move

When we moved from CA to WA, we drove up. I took notes in my planner about our trip. I planned to blog but them I never did anything with them. I guess months later, I might as well type them up and make a post about the move.

I just randomly typed up notes instead of nice sentences.

10k time trial (9.25.22)

I set up my Garmin for a 10k race. But it was a made up race. With all the kids home all the time all summer, it was just hard to get runs in. I cut almost every run short because I just couldn't be gone long enough.  I used the Garmin Training plan initially with a date of Sept 17 but then got too busy and air quality got bad so I pushed the date of the "race" a week later.

I ran that today. I timed it that I'd finish the 10k before I have to run up the stupid steep hill.  Then I turned around late so I decided to do a benchmark run for my next training plan right after. I was surprised how well I did on that with having already run a hard 10k. It was so hot and sunny too.

I didn't take enough water.  I knew I wasn't taking enough but then during the run I felt like it'd be cheating to pause my timer to take the lid off my water bottle and fill it up at the water fountain so I didn't do that. I'm pretty sure my time would have been worse if I stopped since being in the groove of running at the end is what kept me going and slowing to cross the street just kept me running a bit slow after.
NRC achievements (only been using NRC Since September 2021)

Screen shot from a few weeks ago with how confident the app was that I'd make 58 minutes.

My goal time was 58 minutes. I did not think I'd meet that. According to NRC I hit 10k at 56:28.  My old 10k PR is 56:01 from 2011. 56:13 was my 2nd best from 2009. That one was my first 10k ever.  I've done a few 10k since having kids but none as good as today.  So today is my third best.

It's different just doing a 10k on my own versus at an actual race. The race adrenaline just isn't there so I feel like I did pretty well.

I don't know why I was so not confident in even hitting 58. I would hit and beat my speed runs. I just felt like I was cutting my runs all too short so I thought I'd run out of steam. I did run out and the last 2 miles were tougher. The first 3 were no problem.  My mile splits did get worse.

I'm definitely the type of person who needs to train longer than the race. I notice lots of people don't need to. They are fine running 10 mi as the longest training run before a half. I am not. I need longer. After more than 10 years of running races, I have learned I need longer so that's always good to know.

Next up is a training plan for a half marathon. I just need to find an actual race now.

Garmin Mile Splits
I hate how you can only get 5 miles of mile splits properly onto a mapmyrun display. it's annoying. if you look on the website you still can't see it as well as any other app. I actually like how Strava looks better than Garmin for splits but it is Garmin's Data.

According to Garmin my fastest mile and slowest mile were 44.1 seconds different. According to NRC the difference was 57 seconds! And Mapmyrun had the spread at 41 seconds. The goal is to be more consistent.  I ran an 18 mile race once with only 26 seconds of range from slowest to fastest.  (Both races not counting partial mile at the end.)   I did have a downhill in mile one in the 10k so that helped make it the fastest.

I just realized a day later I never took my inhaler. At an actual race where adrenaline has me going faster, I would have needed it for sure. It probably would have helped anyway. Near the end of the run, smoke smell was annoying. The app said air quality was 75 when I finished the run which isn't that bad but it got a little worse. Dave went outside later and said he smelled smoke too even though air quality technically wasn't that bad.

9/16/22 instastories

I recently worked on my 2021 photobooking and I loved the photos I had put captions on for instastories so I knew the story and it was already typed so I decided to post some instastories even though I hadn't in so long.

The painter came to finish. Liam watched his iPad while I photobooked. We went for a run. Liam fell asleep in the stroller. Dave worked on woodworking after work. And so much more.

Run Streak

I started a run streak because Beth was. I kept at it to help my sanity of being unable to get out and run the 3+ miles I wanted to. I'm shocked at how much faster I can run 1 mile in my hilly neighborhood from what I could 50 days ago. In 50 days of my run streak have run 126.44 miles. I ran a 5k a few days ago and did 2 minutes better than I was guessing I'd do. Once all 3 kids are in school, I'll go back to fewer runs a week with them being longer in duration.

I spent way too long saving all the mapmyrun pictures to make the video. It doesn't show distance on the treadmill runs which is annoying. Also who cares about calories and it's probably wrong anyway since who knows what weight it's attempting to use.

Perrigo Parkrun 5k (8/27/22)

At almost the last second I decided to go to the 5k. I parked at 8:57 and the race had a 9 am start time. It started a little late which was good. I ran so much faster than I expected. I know race adrenaline helps but also perfect weather helped. It was 60 degrees and cloudy.

I was surprised that within hours of the race, the results were emailed to us. They had a couple race photographers but they all took photos on their phones. I am waiting to see those. I plan to take race photos at a future race. They do these weekly.

After I finished it took me a little to stop my devices.

I was near the finish when someone was cheering like crazy so I got out my phone and recorded the cheering. Then after, I went up to her and asked if she wanted me to send the video.

Perrigo parkrun results for event #102. Your time was 00:26:51.
Congratulations on completing your 1st parkrun and your 1st at Perrigo parkrun today. You
finished in 26th place and were the 4th Female out of a field of 69 parkrunners and you came
1st in your age category VW35-39. Take a look at this week's full set of results on our website.
Well done on your first parkrun. We have set this as your PB.
You achieved an age-graded score of 56.36%.

I was really nervous I wouldn't have anywhere to park but there was a little bit of room. I had
to go to the bathroom but didn't have time. I drank my energize in the car on the way there. My water bottle was pretty
full of ice and since it wasn't hot, it didn't even melt enough while there.
I didn't run out of water but after the run and before I got to the car I did. I had ice but no water.

I didn't turn on a podcast. I didn't have time but then since they started late, I would have had
time but just chose not to listen to one. I still had a head phone in and listened to my splits. My watch was on "easy
run" so it had a 5 min warmup and then I missed the first mile split (that is really the first full mile after 5 min) and I
missed the second split. So basically didn't see my
splits on my watch. I did have it showing me my lap pace and lap time but then it didn't show
me overall distance so at 2.73 mi I swiped to switch my display and knew I was pretty close.

I set my run:walk intervals to 1:15-0:15 but lately i've been running 10-15 min before walk
intervals so I knew I'd skip the first few. But then I just ended up using 3 of the walk breaks
even though I should have had more. I think they were roughly 11, 16, and 21 minutes.

Garmin, NRC, and mapmyrun had different splits!

Their facebook page had a summary a few days after the race.

Perrigo parkrun #102
After a couple of very exciting weeks of special parkruns, it was back to a somewhat normal routine, but we still had an amazing crowd of 69 runners, walkers and joggers. That was including the fact we had quite a few of our regulars out of town, including our friends the Hoeggers, who have now moved off to Hawaii, Mary and Michele pounding away the miles on the Hood to Coast run, and Nina and Shawn representing Perrigo at our sister parkrun at Winthrop Trailhead parkrun
Amazingly, we had another 10 first timers including:
Annesha Kneip,Colleen McCloskey,Derik Stenerson,Hoke Monika,Kathryn Sullivan,Ke Xiao,Linda Zhao,Tony Meng,Warren Aldred and Yifan Li
We love to see the first timers and hope they make it a plan to come back regularly.
Even more astounding was the fact we had 19 runners with PBs!!
Congrats to everyone who got a PB including:
A.j. Ritter, Amit Kapur, Bingran Luo,Chuck Mulberg,Dave Jackson, David Addison, David Couvrette ,Doug Sippy, Hannah Jackson, Jiashu Wang, John Prochaska, Kanjun Li, Kirk Devine, Min Yang, Nancy Devine, Sam Addison, Shyam Sunder, Tracey Gilman, Zach Jackson
We also had 7 runners visiting from other parkruns:
Deepak Rajendrakumaran visiting from Rock Creek trail parkrun in Portland.
Maya Cutforth who normally runs at South Boulder Creek parkrun in Colorado.
Jack Hogan visiting from Roosevelt Island DC parkrun.
Alex Watterworth from Nose Hill parkrun in Calgary AB Canada.
Cody Elledge who has two parkruns under his belt now, one in Calgary, and now one here.
And a couple special guests, Simon Faber, and Ellisha Simon-Jantz from Okanagan parkrun in Kelowna BC Canada.
Simon just happens to be son of our regular run director DeanF.
And as usual, biggest thanks go to our volunteers for the day:
Laura DE ZORZI, Dean FABER, Max JENSEN, Molly JENSEN, Shinta JEWELL, Gayle KEENAN, Anne MCNICOL, Kevin MORLEY, Linda VATE BRATTSTROM
Extra special thanks to Laura for volunteering when she could have run her 25th parkrun today, and Linda who jumped in at the last moment to fill in for another volunteer who was not feeling well this morning. As usual, I say we have the best group of volunteers, so huge thanks to volunteers from today, and all our regular volunteers.. and you know who you are!!
If you have not volunteered yet, please consider it once in a while, since our parkrun depends on volunteers, and I can honestly say it was a big change for me once I actually started volunteering.
We have more pictures coming from our photographer, but in the meantime, here are a few from the finish line. They are not fancy pictures, but pics we occasionally take with timestamps on them to help resolve timing issues if they should arise.
Till next week,
your RD DeanF.

2 photos were posted on facebook that included me at the finish. I'm still waiting for other

photos to be posted. I know someone took photos.

This shows how close the 2 females in front of me where. The lady in the white hat finished 12 seconds before me.
Then the other lady finished before me too.

I like the time stamp on the photos. I wish I knew how they did that.

They posted more photos. Here are 3 others that I am in.
