29 Weeks (Oct 12)

Since I'm not home, I don't have all my original files to make new collages that look right. Here's a picture from today but you will have to look at last week for some other pictures. Maybe next week I'll make something that looks cool.

I had my baby shower today. I will have a separate post for that. I still need to get all the pictures and load the couple pictures on my cameras. But it was a good time. It was a record short shower. I think multiple people spent longer commuting than actually at the shower.

The flight to Pittsburgh wasn't so bad but I'm so glad we got the extended seats. The flight would have been awful if I was more cramped.  By the last hour my back was bothering me. My ears didn't bother me at all though which was super awesome.

I'm a lot more out of breath zipping up and down my parents steps than I used to be back in the day.  I've also noticed I'm getting heavier all over versus just in the belly. My skinny maternity jeans might not even fit me for that much longer.

I forgot to mention last week that I got my glucose test results. I had a doctor appointment this week and we discussed them. I knew my numbers were low enough to not have gestational diabetes but my mom was concerned maybe they were too low. According to the doctor they are not.  My fasting number was 70. That is pretty low but the range of acceptable is 60-100 so not too low. After 1 hour it was 116 and just needed to be less than 180. After 2 hours it was 93 and just needed to be less than 153. Keep in mind these are different numbers than would happen after a 1 hour test or 3 hour test. You drink 3 different amounts of the sugary drink for them.

Size of baby: Butternut Squash, 15.2 inches long from head to heel. My app on my phone says the baby weighs about 2.5 pounds.

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  20.9 lb gain overall. I gained 2.9 in the past week. Even though those numbers are all wrong. The weight this week is on a different scale AND after my shower so I was in all my clothes with soaking wet hair. (Next week's measurement will be on the same scale but hopefully without the wet hair.)

Maternity Clothes:  Same as last week: Mostly. Some t-shirts and hoodies aren't maternity. I also sleep in my yoga pants that aren't maternity. I still wear some non maternity cami's because some maternity shirts are too see through and you can see that seams don't alone. I'm probably really stretching out those cami's

Gender: Girl!

Movement: Same as the last few weeks. I can feel movement. I can hear a heartbeat.

Sleep: I'm having more trouble sleeping than I have been. Turning over is a little harder than it used to be.  Sometimes my back or my calves hurt.  Poly likes to sleep on top of me more than she used to and sometimes it starts to feel like there are bricks on my chest so I wake up.

What I miss: Exercising and running. Lunch meat on salads.

Cravings: Nothing yet.

Aversions: Nothing really.

Symptoms: Maybe nothing. Maybe the same.  Sometimes my back gets sore when I'm slouching for an extended period of time but I'm pretty sure you should never slouch so I should probably stop.

Best moment this week: My baby shower

Looking forward to:  Partially the same as last week: Can the end of December get here soon enough?  I'm too impatient.

Exercise:  I biked a lot on the weekend. My 2nd longest bike ride yet.  I biked to google once. I don't think I did anything else but maybe I did.

9.26

Shirt and pants: Old Navy (just got them in the mail), Shoes: Famous Footwear
I started off the day driving Dave to work.  His bike is broken and I needed the car. Most days the car sits unused. Then I went and had my glucose test. Since Dave had to be at work at 7:45 for some early meeting, I got to the lab before the lines started.  I got home around 10:30. The first lady that took blood didn't do as good a job poking me as the other 2 people did for the next 2 blood draws.
I practically begged Dave to let me join him for lunch. I have been wanting fries with cheese for about a year now and Charlie's has them now. Finally he got on the computer and said I could join him.  I drove to google since I hadn't eaten much.

On my way I used my horn. The guy in front of me just sat there for many seconds after the light turned green. Six cars went through the light in the lane beside us. It took about 8 tries to get the horn to make horn noise. I guess I'm rusty.  I can't even remember the last time I used my horn.  But then 2 lights later a different car switches lanes in front of me and comes to a stop at the green light. It was green the entire time. So I gave him a little toot. Twice in 1 day is insane. I ended up going through a yellow light because of him. Good thing it was yellow and not red or I would have been madder at him for stopping at a green light.

Driving was a bad choice because there was no parking. I believe I drove through 8 or so lots a few times each and it took 20 minutes before finding something. I also picked up Dave so I could use his badge to get in the parking garage but the only spot there was too small for our big car.

I had a lot of food. It was good. It made me tired.
I came home and did a little with pictures to update my calendar site for May. Then decided to rest on the couch a bit. I woke up an hour later. I knew putting on an afghan was a bad idea.

I added some clothes from April and May to my clothes site. Then went and picked Dave up and we went to REI. He has to fix his bike and needed some tool.

We ate leftover pizza and watched The X Factor.

Pregnancy Collages: September

I posted July and August so why not September. (Well and prior to July)

I'm always shocked how pregnant I look each day compared to before but all these look so similar. Comparing 1 day to the next looks too similar so I decided to compare the first of each month and put that collage at the bottom.

On July 1, I weighed 133.3.
On July 13, I weighed 136.
On July 31, I weighed 138.
On August 1, I weighed 138.
On August 13, I weighed 139.6.
On August 31, I weighed 142.3. (Well and 142.4 and 142.1)
On September 15, I weighed 147.
On September 30, I weighed 155.1.   (includes weight of super swollen ankles from the blood pooling. pic at end of post)

I'm really packing on the pounds now. I began my third trimester (week 27) on September 28. My October collage might not be as fun since I don't leave the house so only take pictures every few days.
swollen ankle
They actually got worse but I didn't get a good picture.
The swelling did go down after about 2 days when I finally got to elevate. It's pretty hard to even tell in the picture how swollen. I feel like they were much worse than the picture shows.

Overall Dev Bootcamp Experience

I wrote about Dev Bootcamp before it started.  I also wrote a lot about different random days of activities.

There was a focus on coding and not lectures but there were times I wish we had a little bit more lecture. We were fumbling around all day trying to figure things out on our own when we would have been able to do them in an hour with a lecture timed earlier or given at all.

I was concerned about the long commute and how much sleep I would need beforehand. I did notice that sometimes I felt behind or wasn't getting through everything everyone else was.  Fellow students were putting in 4 or more hours a day more than I was able to put in. Four hours here or there doesn't seem like much but when you add it up and compare it to the amount of time I was able to work, it was a huge chunk of time.  I would not recommend such a long commute to anyone else doing Dev Bootcamp (or a similar program like App Academy, Hackbright Academy, Hack Reactor, etc.)

They tell you not to commit to anything else during the time.  During my long commutes, I did other things. I worked on my baby registry. I read facebook. I emailed with some friends.  I didn't do as much of that as I normally would have but I was able to do some other things.  I only hung out with friends a few times though. I was also very tired a lot.

I really enjoyed coding. I loved learning so much. I would go for another 9 weeks to learn 9 more weeks of new material.  I haven't actually gotten to see how quickly I can get a job now. I have barely been applying since I've had so many other things backlogged on.

I believe I'm the first pregnant woman to go through Dev Bootcamp but I'm not sure if anyone pregnant has tried to do a similar program. I tried to do some quick googling and didn't find anything. There were days that I felt like all I talked about was being pregnant so then I'd try not to mention it so much.  I felt like I complained a decent amount about being tired and my long commute but at the end of DBC most people commented to me that they were shocked at how little I complained.  Maybe I saved the majority of whining for facebook or something.

In addition to the standard 9 weeks, I did phase 4.  I went in twice a week and stayed most of the day. I felt like students in Phases 1-3 barely asked questions compared to what we used to do. I'm not sure if they are just super awesome or just have a threshold that is different for asking questions.  Some days I helped a few people and other days I'd even walk around and not answer a single question.  Helping gave me a little more confidence. Only once I was unable to help right away but I got someone else to help and they were also unable to help right away too so I don't feel so bad. It was interesting to help students in Phase 1 because that felt like an eternity ago and I enjoyed refreshing my own memory.

Throughout the my time at DBC, I always wanted to put some code I learned into my blog but never seemed to have enough time for that and everything else. Then I would learn something new and the previous thing I wanted to include seemed like old news. Now I'm wishing I would have included more. Also blogging about the technical aspects of what you learn does help you retain it more.

I've probably focused a lot of my posts on things we were learning or what we were doing. But a huge perk of the program was all the great people. I cannot believe how close you become with everyone. They are all willing to help you out. They ask how you are doing and genuinely care.  It's a weird experience to go from not knowing anyone to 3 months later not being with them daily and really missing everyone.  I wish I wasn't so far away or I would be like some students that were ahead of me a phase who would still stop by.

If you have any questions about the experience don't hesitate to ask.

10.4 Poly likes me

Not only does Poly like me a lot more now but when I take pictures google not only makes animations of a bunch of pictures in a row but google created this collage!
I tok quite a few pictures but 3/4 of them had half of poly's face cut off. It's hard to properly aim a camera. Google really did pick the best 3 pictures. There were a couple pictures that showed Poly facing the other way.  She started on my left shoulder and started to get up. I thought she was ditching me but she was just repositioning to face the other way.

The one weird thing about the collage is the outside border is thicker than the inner borders. I thought it would at least be consistent with the borders that you can create when you use their picasa software.

28 Weeks (Oct 5)

Sunday after the hackathon we went to pick up our crib but apparently our crib is in a much larger box than most cribs and won't fit in our car. We were unable to take it home. I've done some research since and we can get Buy Buy Baby to deliver for $100. We can rent a truck to pick up for $80. We have 0 friends with trucks or minivans. Dave was saying even in the entire parking garage at work he only saw one truck. Nobody has big cars around here.
We never didn't even finish putting together the dresser. We started. Dave did install the dimmer light switch while I started putting together the dresser. (Poly was observing from the chair but decided to help before I got a picture of her supervising.)

Some presents have arrived but not many. I'm not looking. Dave is doing a good job not opening them or hiding them when he does so I don't see.

My baby shower in Pittsburgh is in a week. We also finally planned the shower for CA and that will be October 27. Invites still have to go out for that one.

I spent more time this week playing with some gif software to try to find a good version. I will want to make a gif of all 40 weeks but figure I should start finding the best program now. It is quite time consuming and most look kind of silly when the quality drops so much. So far the best practice one is pretty awful for the coloring on my skin.  Maybe I should just do a video of pictures and not a gif.
Size of baby: Iceberg Lettuce, 14.6 inches long from head to heel. My app on my phone says the baby weighs about 2.2 pounds.

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  18 lb gain overall. I gained 2.6 in the past week. (I had gained over 3 lbs last Saturday alone but lost some of that. I ate so much last weekend at Yahoo. Then I was quite swollen. I had dropped but then picked back up between yesterday and today. Perhaps it's from all the bacon I ate. Oh or perhaps the fact that I ate 3 full meals plus donuts + 2 cupcakes.)  I feel like 18 is a big number. According to my app 14-21 lb are normal so I'm finally in the normal range. At 26 weeks I was low and was low up until that point. (I didn't enter any weights the week of 27 weeks pregnant but think that would have been my first week in the normal range.)   Before I thought my gain was more normal since I lost all my muscle so now I'm probably actually ahead but it all works out.

Maternity Clothes:  Mostly. Some t-shirts and hoodies aren't maternity. I also sleep in my yoga pants that aren't maternity. I still wear some non maternity cami's because some maternity shirts are too see through and you can see that seams don't align.

Symptoms: My ankles were swollen for the first time. But not even just swollen in the evening, they ended up swollen all day on Sunday and Monday. They were so swollen, I think they were bigger than my calf. I kept pushing on the squishy part on my ankles too. I don't think the hackathon helped with it because I slept very little and sat at a table for a very long time without elevating my feet at all.  My back hurt for the first time. But mainly it hurt after I got a massage. I had trouble sleeping that night. I blame the chair massage because it hasn't hurt since.  My calves woke me up once hurting and I got a foot and then calf cramp 2 other times.

Best moment this week: Winning the hackathon

Looking forward to:  Can the end of December get here soon enough?  I'm too impatient.   I'm also looking forward to visiting PA in less than a week! (that's the exact same as last week except now it's in a week that I'm going to PA)

Exercise:  I only went into Dev Bootcamp once. I did walk extra then but only had a few minutes of exercise the rest of the week.

The Old Days

Look how cute!  I got excited over a little 400 GB hard drive.
I guess Dave didn't appreciate his picture being taken.

Yahoo Hack USA

The lead up:
A few weeks ago at DBC we were talking about upcoming hackathons. A fellow DBC cohort member mentioned one at Yahoo in Sunnyvale. I thought that was close so decided to sign up. To sign up you had to fill out a form and then within a day you got an email saying you were able to register. I think if they filled up, then you wouldn't get that follow-up email.  I was in but didn't read much about it besides you had to use one of Yahoo's APIs and could do anything.  Then I started to try to get other people to do it. Dave signed up. He asked his coworkers but none of them wanted to or they weren't in town to be able to do it.

The week of the event, 2 other people from DBC signed up and there were 4 of us. I looked and max team size was 4. We were set. I thought the guy who originally told me about it was doing another hack since he had actually signed up for 3 and preferred a different one.

I started to get nervous. I had never done a hackathon. I felt pressure because other teams of DBC folks were winning prizes. It's an all night hackathon and I knew I would need to sleep. Also the last Yahoo Hackathon in Sunnyvale was in 2008 so I felt like there was some sort of pressure from that. The following is from the page where I initially signed up so I just felt like there would be a lot of really experienced people doing the hacakthon.
Yahoo has been organizing Hack Days across the world since 2005. In 2013 alone, we held 3 amazing hack events in London, Beijing and Hyderabad . The last time Yahoo hosted a hack day in Sunnyvale was in 2008, so we are thrilled to announce that Yahoo Hack USA is coming back to our headquarters in Sunnyvale. Yahoo Hack USA is open to all developers around the country and we look forward to welcoming a diverse group of talented folks from all across the U.S. In addition to the amazing food, drinks, snacks and caffeine that Yahoo hack events are famous for, our Sunnyvale hack will feature celebrated speakers and great content to stimulate your mind and expand your hacking skills.
The night before our 2 other team members slept over so they didn't have such a long trip in for a Saturday morning. Plus I don't even know if on Saturdays trains would start early enough. The problem for me was, I didn't sleep well. I was nervous about the hack and stressing about how well the houseguests were sleeping on our couches oh and stressing about what Poly would do. My BodyMedia fit claims I slept for almost six and a half hours but it sure didn't feel like it. We headed out to get there around 9 AM. Depending on where you looked the suggestions were 8:30 or 9 with speakers starting at 9:30 so we aimed to get there at 9. We probably got there at 9:10 though.
At Yahoo Day 1:
We all got breakfast. They had Krispy Kreme and fruit. Perhaps other stuff that I didn't eat. They started promptly at 9:30 with the CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer, welcoming everyone.
source: Yahoo! Developer Network
There were a couple introductory presentations and then 6 tech talks. For each time slot of tech talks there were 3 to choose from. There were quite a few interesting ones to choose from.
Once the tech talks were over, hacking and lunch began. To start hacking the put up a 24 hour clock countdown. It was pretty cool to see that.  Lunch on the other hand was not cool. They had salad with a million olives in it, sandwiches with lunch meat, chips, and cookies. I did get a vegetarian hoagie but it had so much hummus on it, it was gross to me. I don't like condiments or sauces of any sort on sandwiches. They had a few leftover donuts from breakfast so I took 1 then went up and took another.  I guess with my lack of real food Dave decided to go ask someone to make a vegetarian hoagie for me without hummus. That was pretty good but too bad I ate 2 donuts, 1 huge cookie, and a ton of chips by this point. I did get the last premade veggie one so they were already making more since I wasn't last in line but still I wasn't about to ask for something special so I'm glad Dave did.  Oh I forgot around 11 AM I ate a ton of snacks too. They had these shelves labeled "HACK SNACKS" and had chips and candy on them.

Even though on Friday night we spent an hour or so trying to come up with ideas, we hadn't decided on one so we were still deciding when hacking started. Not only that but Dave had just installed Ruby that day but hadn't tried to install Rails so we wasted time with that. We couldn't get it to work so we just used sinatra. I was guessing that other people weren't installing coding programs on their computer during the hack. They probably did that in advance or something smart like that.

We decided on an idea and maybe 2 hours later decided to scrap that idea and come up with a new one. Both ideas used flickr but nothing else was the same.

We got to hacking up a storm. I felt like we were making really good progress once we decided on idea but it did take about 2 or 3 hours before we actually got started on that.

We had dinner around 8 PM. They had 7 food trucks outside and you could pick what you wanted. I got stuff from 3 different trucks. I was extremely full to start though.  I ate so much all day that I was ready to explode.  I got a root beer float. It was odd to explain to people what a root beer float was. It just seems so common to me.
It was just such a fun vibe. The music was nice. I enjoyed looking up and seeing a clock countdown.

Then I got a headache. I think it was a sinus headache but I rarely get headaches so I'm not sure. I had to not stare at the screen for a little bit. Yet I kept only taking a 5 sec break or so because I just wanted to keep coding.

For those that weren't stuffed out of their minds, they had pizza at midnight. They also had beer. Everyone had 2 drink tickets. I gave mine away.

Around midnight I started working on the Favicon for the site. I was failing at doing what I wanted to do. I wanted to use Wikipedia's font for theirs but make it an F. Well I failed at downloading the font. Then I found a program to use and just used a font that looked nice. I made it and then decided it was time to go to sleep. After that point I looked at my watch and it was 1:30. It took me about an hour and a half to make a crappy favicon. It was definitely time to go to sleep!

You can read what Yahoo wrote about Day 1 and also see my team pictures in the last photo.

Dave and I went home to sleep but Fabián and Martino stayed. Fabián took a little nap when we left. Martino continued to work until about 3.
Fabian took the picture on the left while I was at home sleeping.
At Yahoo Day 2:
Martino was still asleep when we got there at 8:40 in the morning.

Then we got to hacking. Most of what I did in the morning was try to do something new I never did before that I couldn't get to work. Stack Overflow questions were similar and I tried answers and it didn't work. I did learn a bit about angular in the process but what I was working on never got implemented. Luckily it was only making the cursor focus on the search box on load. That's not a requirement. I know how to do it in JavaScript and jQuery but Dave said we were there to learn and not to do it the way we already know how.

We had issues in multiple areas at the last minute. Our navbar wouldn't get sticky how it was supposed to. If you copied the code into jsfiddle, it was in fact sticky. If you inspect elements, and highlight the code for the navbar it thought it was at the top of the page even though it wasn't.
The names of the branches and names of the commits got a lot funnier as time went on.  Our last commit was 11 minutes before our 24 hours were up; so we had plenty of time.

Time was up at 1:30, then we all went to lunch. At 2:30 presentations started.  There were 58 teams presenting. There may have even been more teams that were hacking but decided not to present anything.  Fabián presented for our group. He wasn't at the table when we were discussing who would present but at least he was willing.

We were number 15. I was glad to be near the beginning because hackers in the audience started really talking through presentations once they hit 40 or so. I shushed them a few times but that didn't seem to help.   Everyone had 2 minutes to present.

There was a short break. We sat and talked. There were drinks available but not like beer was appealing to me. :)
Around 5:15 awards started. A different judge announced each award. When David Filo was up there, I thought wow he is really playing up whatever team won this one. Dave said "This is us. I know it." but I didn't think we would have won. Then our site was announced. Man was I excited.  We walked up on stage and got our paper with the award on it. Everyone else so far had gotten checks. We were the first non monetary award.  Walking up to the stage Dave walked over to the stairs. I was very grateful of that. But after pictures and everything, we had to exit the stage. We were attempting to go back to the steps when we were called over to exit a different place.  That wasn't a fun step down. In the video someone took for me from their phone, you can see my arm flail in the air as I'm trying to step down. Also in the video you can see how easy it was for David Filo and Martino to just step down. From the video you can't tell how high that stage really was.

We won "Best Use of Yahoo Technology or Product" which means:
The winning team will get to come back to the Yahoo Sunnyvale campus to demo their hack to the Yahoo executive in charge of the product line that the hack falls into. For example, if you're creating a mobile app prototype, you would get to meet with our Mobile leadership. You'll also get a personal tour of Yahoo headquarters and lunch with Yahoos from product engineering in URLs, our delicious cafeteria.
All prizes were listed on the website we all had access to but that didn't mean I actually read them in advance so I really had no idea what we won. We all got red hoodies too that say hackers on the back. Too bad Dave's hoodie is about 3 sizes too small. Mine fits great though. When I'm not pregnant, it will be a bit big though.
After all the awards were complete, we took a few group pictures of all the winners and then we went outside to be interviewed. (I don't like the hands in the air one because most of my team is totally hidden.
Our team name was Team of Five and we listed our bio as
Description
Tired of viewing pictures without context? Tired of reading boring walls of text on Wikipedia. We have you covered. Now you can explore Wikipedia via Flickr.

Explore. Wonder. Flickrpedia.
But in the Yahoo blog they wrote it up as
Best Use of Yahoo! Technology or Product - FlickrPedia Awarded to Team of Five (plus one on the way), FlickrPedia was built to let people explore Wikipedia via Flickr and view pictures with context and spruce up “walls of text” on Wikipedia with beautiful images from Flickr.
If you want to see more photos you can check out my picasa, yahoo's flickr, or just search twitter for #YahooHackUSA.

There were a few teams with people from DBC. I was impressed with everyone's hacks.

27 Weeks (Sept 28)

Each day I'm on the scale I think it's about a lb higher than the day before. Probably a bad trend.

I had my glucose test. I didn't like fasting for so long. I was lightheaded and clammy. Also why does it take so long for results when they could just do a glucose test with one of those strips and you'd learn right there? I think I don't learn for a couple weeks.  If you look online you see a 1 hour test or a 3 hour test. If you don't pass the one hour test you go for a three hour one. But around here it starts off with a two hour test. I'm not really sure why.

Our crib is in but with a Hackathon all weekend, we won't have time to pick it up until Sunday night. I hope we do have time then.

I took numerous weekly pictures a day early but was short on time so I only got to the first picture of both types that I was actually facing to the side and put them in. (Most pictures I'm accidentally slightly angled.) So in future weeks I might have a different photo for the week 27 spot but for now it's good enough.  The pictures all look so similar lately yet I'm getting more comments about looking pregnant. I think from the front it's a little more noticeable than it was before. And I realized I used a different date format for 9-27 so I guess I should redo that too when I finally pick a picture.   I took the pictures a day early because of the hackathon.

I feel like there is more I should mention but can't think of it now.
Size of baby: Cauliflower, 14.4 inches long from head to heel. My app on my phone says the baby weighs about 2 pounds, which is the same weight it listed for 26 weeks.

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  15.4 lb gain overall. I gained 3.3 in the past week. (Apparently I gained 1.5 lb in the past day. I also moved the scale to clean the floor so that might have something to do with it.)

Maternity Clothes:  Same as the previous weeks. I got new jeans. They are a little better but still falling down. I hate the lack of belt loops because belt loops are nice to tug pants back up.

Gender: Girl!

Movement: Same as the last few weeks. I can feel movement. I can hear a heartbeat.

Sleep: I'm more tired lately. I've been napping when I've been home.

What I miss: Exercising and running.

Cravings: Nothing yet.

Aversions: Nothing really.

Symptoms: Same as last week!
Last week - Nothing this week besides lightheadedness sometimes. I have figured out that I can't stand or shop after eating. That's when lightheadeness happens. But if I stand or walk a few hours after eating, I'm fine.

Best moment this week: I'm not sure. I did enjoy looking at some nerdy baby clothes and pinned them. That may sound the same as last week but I pinned more.  I'm glad to finish my glucose test to have that out of the way. I got some new clothes so that was cool. I got 3 shirts for cheap because shipping is free for orders of $50 or more and well jeans weren't that expensive so now I have 3 new shirts + new jeans.

Looking forward to:  Can the end of December get here soon enough?  I'm too impatient.   I'm also looking forward to visiting PA in less than a month!

Exercise:  I went into Dev Bootcamp twice so I biked, walked, then biked like normal on those 2 days. I exercised around my block once. I want to go to the gym to lift weights but I'm scared to go to a new place alone so I want Dave to go and we never go. (Being busy or working until 8 PM is his excuse)

.gif playing

I did some playing with creating an animated gif. There are many sites online that will allow you to create them so I didn't try to make one myself. All the sites have different rules like file size less than 2 MB, 30 photo max, etc.  I'm hoping sharing this works.

I was going to use my random side profile pictures but gifmaker has a max of 30 images. I'm not even sure they are in the correct order.  It would have been nicer if I cropped everything the same size. Maybe I will go back once I figure out a good way to do it.  I do have versions of the pictures with the week and date; that would have probably helped me know the correct order.

I'm not a big fan of the photo quality now. I could have probably chosen the weekly photos that only go to my knee. The one picture where I'm in a white shirt is too tall/skinny and throws everything off. The worst part is I have a version of the picture right beside that one in the folder that is wider. After you pick your photos you can't swap them out so I just left it.

Have you ever made your own animated gif? How did you do it?

I'm actually quite distracted by the animation that it's even hard to type this text so I apologize if you are trying to read it and are distracted.

I made a second one with the pictures that only go to my knee but most of those had a file size that was too large.  I put that one at the bottom anyway even though only half the pictures are there.

I feel like my work is cut out for me tomorrow. I'm going to recrop some pictures to make them a consistent width and height. I also should find another site to make gifs so I don't have to resize the photos. I used to use photoshop to resize photos but I don't have that installed so I'm not sure what method I should use to shrink down the pictures to get more to show up in the animations.  I should poke around more too to find one that allows more than 30 photos so I can just do my random side profile pictures from throughout pregnancy.

Pet Peeves

You know those things that annoy you but really shouldn't? I have a few of them.  I'm not sure I'd classify these as pet peeves but I guess that's what they are. They are just a little bit more annoying to me than some of my normal pet peeves.

I cannot stand when someone bites a string cheese or bites Pull n' Peel Twizzlers. Now I don't know why this bothers me so much. It shouldn't. Some people know this bothers me so they make it a point to bite the string cheese right there in front of me to get me bothered by it.  Back in May someone bit a Pull n' Peel Twizzler in front of me without knowing it bothered me and I still constantly think about it. This is a bad problem to have.

I cannot stand stickers or labels on things. When you buy a plastic container that sticker has to be removed immediately. When you get something new with a display there is always a clear sticker over it. That has to be removed immediately. Sometimes I've been in someone else's house or their cube and their stickers are still there. It's so distracting. I just want to take it off.  I would say that I've probably removed the stickers or labels on other people's stuff before without even asking. I hope they don't care but really don't care if they do because that sticker had to come off!

Bikers running red lights. I didn't notice this until DBC but during my walks to the train station I always notice lights being red and people coming with their bicycles and just running the red lights.  It happens often and really bothers me every single time.  Most of the time there are cars that have to wait to go on their green lights because of these bikers. I get so annoyed by this that I'm usually thinking about it on my train ride home too.  I get annoyed with myself that I'm too slow to go through the intersection at the end of my street. I start moving when it turns green but it is always red before I'm even across to the shoulder.

What are ours? If you want to get annoyed you can check out a list of pet peeves. I only jumped around on the list but most didn't even bother me at all. There is also no mention of twizzlers, string cheese, stickers, or labels on that list.

I found "being the first one at any party" to be funny because I'm often first and say I do it because others hate to be first.

Here are a few from the list that also bothered me. Now I think some are just annoying versus what I'd consider a pet peeve but I'll keep them on the list anyway.
  1. Drivers who don't use a turn signal.
  2. People who drink directly out of the milk/orange juice container.
  3. Using speaker phones in public areas at work.
  4. Roadmaps that aren't folded correctly.
  5. When your spouse/roommate uses the butter to put on their toast, and leaves crumbs in the container.
  6. When people don't send thank you notes.
  7. Someone standing over my shoulder reading the computer screen.
  8. Jerks who take up 2 parking spaces.
  9. People who leave shopping carts in the parking lot instead of taking them back to the corral.
  10. People who go the wrong way in a parking lot.
  11. People throwing trash into a recycle bin.
  12. When people don't clear the microwave numbers.
  13. When people don't RSVP to an event.
  14. Drivers who signal after they make a lane change.
  15. People who spell "you're" as "your."
  16. Taking forever to leave a parking space while others are clearly waiting for it
  17. When people are using armrests on both sides of you.
  18. People who are always late.
  19. Someone opening a cabinet door or drawer and leaving it open.
  20. People who use self checkout lanes but don’t know how to use them and slow us all down.
  21. People that don't answer e-mail.
  22. Failing to take a backpack into account when turning or backing into people
  23. When you ask for LOTS of ketchup and they give you only two or three packets.
  24. Shopping carts with a broken wheel.
  25. Going out to dinner with a big group, eating $10 worth of food and having to split the whole bill and ending up paying much more than you ate.
  26. People who make you take off your shoes when you go into their house.
  27. I hate slow people walking in front of me.
  28. People who are late.
  29. Grocery shopping carts with a bad wheel.
  30. People who leave their pets in their hot cars in the summer.
  31. People who people park a shopping cart in the middle of the aisle in Wal-Mart or grocery store, blocking the way for others and then walking away to gather items.
  32. People who smoke right outside the door of a nonsmoking establishment, getting smoke all over everybody who enters/leaves.
  33. Things sticking out of drawers
  34. Utility/Cable service people that don't show up on time.
  35. People who don't move to the back of the bus when there is plenty of room to do so.
  36. Used grocery bags that aren't folded correctly.
  37. Drivers who drive slow in the left lane.
  38. People who eat while talking on the phone to me.
  39. People trying to enter an elevator when people IN the elevator haven't left yet.
  40. People who don't say "thank you" or even acknowledge you when you hold the door for them.
  41. TV shows and commercials ads with ringing doorbells or phones, which make you into thinking the sound is coming from your house.
  42. I hate when restaurant staff starts clearing dishes away when not everyone has finished eating -- leaving the one person at a table of four to feel bad they haven't finished yet.
  43. People who can't seem to understand that " red eyes" are possible to remove in photos.
  44. Characters in movies always order food then end up leaving the table long before the food could be served.
  45. Characters that have just met each other in movies arrange dates without exchanging any contact or meet information.
  46. How people merging onto a highway or interstate always fail to reach a merging speed and cause havoc.
Many of the things that annoy me weren't even on that list but maybe I'll ramble about everything else some other day.  Do any of the conveniently numbered items above annoy you?

BTW my laptop power cord is now labeled with my initials and it's bothering me. It's not neat and pretty anymore. But I guess at least people won't try to steal my cord when I unplug my computer for 5 min to go help someone or go sit on the couch.

DBC Phase 3

I meant to type this up sooner. I just wanted to relax after I finally finished phase 3.

Phase 3 started off with just getting thrown into Rails on the first day but it wasn't even so bad.  But then Tuesday was testing. It was broken down so it was easier and seemed fun. On Wednesday we had to do TDD and that wasn't as easy since we were writing tests that were for our own code before writing our code and we were also using Rails for the second time or so. After many hours of struggling we all had a lecture on testing. I'm not even sure how beneficial that was after such a draining day.

That TDD on Wednesday was the first day of a group project. The second day of the project I was out sick. I finally caught the stomach bug that was going around. That was a day we had to take another group's project and work on that and a different group took over our project. I did some learning at home but didn't work on the projects. I was back to class on Friday but still felt pretty miserable. From not eating for a day and a half, I was so lightheaded pretty much all the time. It's extremely difficult to code especially code something new when your head is foggy. I am actually impressed with how much I was able to accomplish.  My group also worked on the weekend on our projects. On Monday we presented our projects. Our group winged who was talking about what. I hate the winging. Someone just starts and keeps going and then talks about things I thought I'd talk about and then it stresses me out.  They weren't official presentations or anything so it didn't really matter.  I sort of forget what we did during that week on Tuesday and Wednesday. I think we did a few problems in Socrates to just practice or learn a few things.

Then on Thursday of week 2 the fun began. In the morning, we had pitches. Everyone voted. The top 4 pitches were chosen. We were put into teams and we began working. We worked hardcore. My group came in on Saturday to work but worked from home on Sunday. (I posted somewhere in the middle of our hardcore work.) We continued to work hardcore until late Thursday night. Friday we had presentations and we were still putting together our presentation on Friday morning. That stressed me out too. I had sent screen shots to be included Thursday  night. I suggested using a google presentation so we could edit it ourselves but my team didn't start one. Then I get in on Friday and learn I still have to put all my screen shots in a presentation that is in fact using google which was my suggestion of earlier. I would have much rather gone to bed with my slides set up. Well it was go time and I felt we didn't have enough screen shots.

Then we presented and didn't use everything anyway because we ran low on time since the first presenter out of the 3 of us took up 6 of our 10 minutes.

Once presentations were over we breathed a little sigh of relief. Then we had a presentation from KISSmetrics and ate lunch. Then we were told some stuff about LinkedIn profiles and how to update ours. We were given some time to update them but I didn't do that since I could barely say my words correctly by this point since I was so tired.

It was a very long day for me. I already posted about it once so I guess I didn't need to say some info above.

During the last week, I spent 2 nights at the hacker house so I didn't have to spend a really long time commuting. The first night I didn't get much work done since I was sort of stuck. The second night, I was up past 2 AM and stuck again and not accomplishing much. I ruled out a lot of ways to do the money though.

During the last week of Phase 3, my sleep duration was even less than it had been during DBC. Earlier I showed how I was at 6:46 on average a night for a month in DBC well the last week, I was at 6:16. That is not enough sleep for a non-pregnant me and it surely wasn't enough sleep while I was pregnant. I needed the weekend to recover and sleep more. Friday night I only slept about 8 hours. I wanted to sleep 14 or more but my body woke me up by 8 am.

If you want to see our app you can go to http://live-together.herokuapp.com and you don't really  need to put in real email addresses or addresses but then you won't get to test out the email features for things.  You can view the code on github too.

26 Weeks (Sept 21)

I have added even more to the baby registries. I'm not sure why I keep getting told it's lacking because there are about double the items on there than people invited to the shower.

We bought a dresser for the baby room today.  I'll get a picture of it in the room and post it by next week. I'm wondering when our crib will actually come in.

I relaxed a bunch this week. I seemed to have relaxed on the baby planning front too because I can't think of exciting things to report.

I feel like my belly is more rounded than it has been the past few weeks.

Size of baby: Eggplant, 14 inches long from head to heel. My app on my phone says the baby weighs about 2 pounds.

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  12.1 lb gain overall. I gained 2.8 in the past week. I think baking cookies and brownies and then eating a ton of them caused me to gain more weight this week. According to my app I should have gained 13-19 lbs so far if you click on the weight area. If you look at the week description for Week 26 it says 16-22 lbs.  I lose so much muscle that I bet overall my gain will appear low if I am on track. But based on recent trends I'll probably gain too much anyway.

Maternity Clothes:  Same as the previous weeks. I ordered new jeans since I'm so sick of my 3 pairs of blue jeans sliding down while I wear them. I have to wait about a week for them to arrive in the mail.

Gender: Girl!

Movement: Same as the last few weeks. I can feel movement. I can hear a heartbeat. I have read that I should be able to tell the baby's sleep schedule but I haven't actually tried to figure it out besides knowing she kicks a lot at night. She must be a night owl.

Sleep: I finally got to catch up on some sleep this week without having to go int Dev Bootcamp everyday. Once I'm asleep the only things waking me up are a cat walking on me or my allergies.

What I miss: Exercising and running.

Cravings: Nothing yet.  When do these usually start?  I have tolerated eating foods that I used to not like. Maybe that counts for something. I ate cookies with nuts in them. I've started eating hashbrowns and bacon again even though I was so sick of both for about a year.

Aversions: Nothing really.

Symptoms: Nothing this week besides lightheadedness sometimes. I have figured out that I can't stand or shop after eating. That's when lightheadeness happens. But if I stand or walk a few hours after eating, I'm fine.

Best moment this week: I'm not sure. I did enjoy looking at some nerdy baby clothes and pinned them. I think I will require a few nerdy onesies for this baby. I noticed that most nerdy things that I understood were more for boys.

Looking forward to:  Can the end of December get here soon enough?  I'm too impatient.   I'm also looking forward to visiting PA in less than a month!

Exercise:  I went into Dev Bootcamp twice so I biked, walked, then biked like normal on those 2 days. Then on Tuesday I biked to and from Google. I don't think I did anything on Wednesday or Thursday exercise wise. That's probably why I miss exercising more this week than I have been. I want to go to the gym but I want Dave to go with me since I haven't been to the gym at this location yet.
Here are some other positions that aren't just the side view. I also liked so many pictures this week that I had to throw some in that weren't my standard. I did take more than normal too. It was so nice not having a bright sun interfere with my pictures.

Bowls

I posted before how I eat now and my mom commented that it was like my dad. I actually didn't remember him eating like that. But then my brother texted me a picture from my aunts house about eating chip 'n dip and then in the background there was my dad eating just like me. I cropped the picture to show off our bowl similarity. People say we are a lot alike and now we have another thing to add to that.

Photos of me: 8/31 and 9/2.
Photo of my dad: 9/7

Dev Bootcamp Last Day

Friday was my last day of Dev Bootcamp.  I was purely exhausted.  From 9-10 AM, we did our normal Friday routine with sharing group.  From 11-12 we did final group presentation. At 12:30 we got lunch then listened to a presentation from KISSmetrics. Right after that Zee talked to us about our LinkedIn profiles. We spent a little bit of time on that then headed to the park with our cohort. We were there about a half hour and I'm not even sure if there's a name for what we did. It was sort of team building but not really. It was more of sharing and each person got to hear what others thought was special about them.
Then we went back to DBC and had our graduation ceremony.  As soon as that was over, we headed to Murphy's for a graduation party.

Final presentations were really impressive.

Fabián, Clay, and I presented the app that we had a week to build. We were the group of 3 and that stressed me out because other groups had 4 and I have the longest commute by far. But I survived.
The app is called LiveTogether, and it aims to solve many of the problems that arise from roommates living together such as tracking chores, grocery lists, and expenses.

I'm impressed that we accomplished so much in so little time. And impressed with how nice my group was the entire time. I even stayed with them 2 nights to cut down on my commute.
We got so many compliments from people in the other cohorts.

After the graduation ceremony people from other cohorts came over to congratulate us and give us hugs. We also hugged each other congratulations. There were so many hugs.

25 Weeks (Sept 14)

This week was really nuts with Dev Bootcamp. Twice I didn't weigh myself. Once I didn't take my daily picture. So far 2 boxes arrived with baby gifts (I think). Well maybe more if Dave moved some. I didn't open anything. I meant to add things I know I'm missing to the registry today but didn't get to it yet. I spent too much time relaxing and playing with pictures. Registries are hard.

Right now I have some pre-pregnancy clothes in the baby room that are also clothes I haven't worn in ages because they are dressy.  I should probably do something with them.  My closet probably has 16 ft of rod space and I think about 3 ft of that are clothes that fit me now.

I was looking to buy a tank top today at Target to workout in. I have tank tops from Jen but they are real clothes and I don't want to end up ruining them from sweat and I have 1 tank but it's sort of see through. I was just going to buy a cheap tank top not an athletic one just so I have something. While I was just looking for tank tops in the store, Dave wanders around and then comes over with a jacket for me to try on. I've been looking for a jacket forever. The sleeves were even a perfect length. I don't know what kind of magic he pulled because Target has never had sleeves on jackets that fit me before. They only had 2 jackets. Dave said he never saw sleeves that fit so well and I should just wear the jacket all the time.  It's more of an athletic jacket but since it's black it will work for anything.   I thought it was a little tighter in the hips but Dave said that's how it's supposed to fit. I'll try it on later and post a pic. It's still in the bag from Target with my new tank top. The tank top is stripes and I think the thin stripe is black. I have blue athletic shorts that fit and normally wouldn't mix black and blue but at this point I don't care since that tank was on sale for 9 bucks and other tanks were 20.
Size of baby: Zucchini, 13.6 inches long from head to heel. My app on my phone says the baby weighs about 1.5 pounds.

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  9.3 lb gain overall. I gained 1.4 in the past week.I was 146.5 on Monday but then a week in insanity at Dev Bootcamp left me at 145.8 on Saturday.

Maternity Clothes:  Same as last week: Pretty much everything. Some T-shirts I sleep in are from elementary school. Then if I wear my Dev Bootcamp shirt then that's not maternity.  If I wore leggings they aren't maternity that I have. But I don't know how to wear leggings with the shoes I have. I want other choices.  Oh I also sleep in non-maternity yoga pants or my shorts from 7th grade.

Gender: Girl!

Movement: The kicks are a lot stronger each week. I can see my belly move with the kicks sometimes. I wish I could more though. It's fun.

Sleep: For the past 7 days up to Friday night I averaged 6:16 of sleep a night. The baby didn't wake me up. Coding kept me up late. Then I slept pretty well.

What I miss: Not having to think if I'm allowed to eat something. Not having to explain why I can't have things like lunch meat or soft cheeses.

Cravings: Nothing yet.  When do these usually start?

Aversions: Nothing really.

Symptoms: Nothing this week besides lightheadedness sometimes. The calf thing hasn't happened since that one day last week.

Best moment this week: Graduating from Dev Bootcamp and having multiple people mention how proud they were of me and my dedication and being able to do it all while pregnant.

Looking forward to:  More Sleep. A doctor appointment this week if I can come up with questions to ask.

Exercise:  I didn't bike + walk as much this week since I spent 2 nights with classmates versus coming home.  I also rolled my ankle so that really hurt. It hurt for 3 days. Then after a day of not hurting, I rolled it again AND then 2 hours later skidded on my kitchen floor and then it's back to hurting again.  On Monday evening I did walk to the Ferry and then 20 minutes more after. But all the rest of the trips, I got the car. I tried not to complain to everyone about my ankle since I was already crashing their place, I didn't want them to feel forced to take the Ferry to give me car space because I was complaining. They gave me car space anyway.  I went on the Ferry on Monday even though they said I didn't have to but my group was going on the ferry so I thought it was better that we stick together if we have to talk about things.
