We Moved!

We moved! We are in our new house. It's a wreck. I just need to finish 1 room instead of starting all rooms. I keep wasting hours looking for stuff. Today I could not find the new cat food bag I saw 2 days ago so I wasted 30 min looking for that. I spent an hour trying to find the cat litter box.  It's crazy.

I went on 1 run here. I pushed a stroller that needed air in the tires but I couldn't find the pump. Wow it is quite hilly. The elevation for 1.5 mi run was more than 20x that of a 2.23 mi run recently before I moved.   It was more than double (almost triple) that of a recent 6.8 mi run.

The pic is from before we moved but no photos have auto backed up since June 2 so it's what I'll go with.

Down By the Bay 5k (4.3.22)

I registered for the 5k and wanted to beat my old best time doing this which was in 2015. I did a goal pace run earlier in the week and needed 9:11. I realized the race was going long so then I was confused but thought I met my goal pace.  Well here I averaged 9:05 but the race was long so I did not meet my goal time.  Now I really feel like I need another race to redeem myself. The last time I did this race I did in 36 min and the time before 31 but I wanted in the 28s like when I ran it in 2015.
My original goal was 28:51; my personal best on this course. Then I just wanted to beat my personal best in California so that was 28:20. 27:48 was actually a best since having kids but that was a PA race and I believe it was slightly short.

My official time was 29:10 for this race.  I came in 6th in my age group. If I was 2 years older, I'd have been first in my age group. They only gave awards for top finisher in each age group and the age group spanned 10 years not 5 like some races.

Good

The Tot Trot was a good warmup. Maybe not good enough but still nice.

I was so busy that I barely had time to be nervous. I only got nervous right at the start line.

Bad

The race turnaround was wrong and the race was long.

We were running late and I was stressed.

There is no shade at all and the race starts later than most races so it's extra warm by the time of the 5k.

What to learn from it

The day before I was way too busy and wore shoes that weren't my standard shoes. My feet hate anything that's not my sneaker. My feet hurt a lot. I won't schedule family photos the day before again! I also won't get minimal sleep because of yearbook deadlines. Next time when I'm figuring out my goal time I'm going to plan for a 3.2 mi race not 3.1 so then hopefully I beat it instead of being super mad.

I wrote everything above the week of the race, which was 1.5 months ago. I was hoping that there would be race photos that I'm in but of course I'm not in a single race photo. I passed a few volunteer photographers and they'd always have their camera down like they didn't care about 5k racers that weren't fast or something

I was annoyed my family didn't see me come into the finish like they have in the past. They also have taken photos in the past but they didn't. Luckily my friend saw me at the finish so she immediately took out her phone and said to let her get a photo. I didn't even have to ask her!

Prior to the race, I ran into someone I ran with about 8 years ago. Her goal was about 30 minutes. She beat me by over a minute!

I switched up how I ran this race. I did Stride Repeats so I got extra fast for 20 second bursts but in that time I didn't walk any of the recovery and was jogging it. The lack of walk breaks definitely make me feel more dead.

I was a little slow stopping the device but this one has mile splits

The turnaround. The yellow is where we turned around previous times I ran it.

I feel like I have not had a good year for races. First I register for a half and then have surgery so change it to a 10k. Next race, I was a little late and forgot energize. Third race I sprained my ankle days before and change to a shorter distance and took it nice and slow! Fourth race was this one where I was mad I didn't hit my goal time!

Garmin Training Plan in App

A few months ago I did a screen record with a voice over for garmin training plan details. It's not the best but I figured I'd share it here.

I love Garmin Training Plan. I use the same coach each time.

Lack of Posting

I always want to blog and don't have time. I put it on the back burner even though I love to look at it later. I just noticed I didn't have a single post in April. That's the first missed month since 2003 when I started with LiveJournal. Crazy.   I have 2 race recaps I need to write. The kids ran a tot trot. Liam is always cooking. Google photos paid storage is filling up and auto backup isn't working so nothing is ever easy. Also remind me to never do 3 yearbooks ever again.

Also to add to the whole being busy thing, we are moving. Below is a screen shot of a photo of the new kitchen!

Running Numbers

My speed has been improving. Garmin has given me fast goals and I always think I cannot meet them and then I meet or beat them.  I added a few tabs in my google sheet with some summaries. I still have one more to create.

On March 3 I ran and the average pace was under 10 for 4 miles. If I just set out to run 4 miles, then I feel like I'd never have beat 10 minutes. I don't even know how I did it with a progression run.

The tab of progression runs and the summary is new to see it all in one spot. The goal times vary when I update my race goal time.

I enjoy the Day of the week one. All my long runs kept being Sunday but I did do one Saturday so that distance isn't as short as it was.  I run 4 days most week so I run 2 days in a row once but then there are rest days between the others.

Recently I ran 2 fast stride repeat continuous runs. It improved my continuous run pace by over a minute! It's funny running straight through but altering the speed ended up making me so much faster than just setting out to run.

At some point in 2021 I went back through the previous 10 years of data to get total time and average pace for each year.  It's so fun to look at.  Before mid 2012 the runs were very hilly.

I recently added weekly pace and number of runs in a week then I realized you could get that information with NRC app and it also has total time so maybe I should add a column with total time too.

It's fun to see the breakdown of type of run and speed and distance. The night easy run is just a night run where I needed more steps on step bet so not a full length workout so I didn't want it the same as Easy run just to see. I'm surprised I only needed 1 day because last January and February I did a dozen or more runs at night because I needed steps.

I really like using Garmin training plans so then I don't end up just doing every run at the same speed. I like varying runs and varying goals and like seeing the splits at those intervals. I also like to use NRC to have mile splits too along with the splits from Garmin.

Nobody else probably cares about this at all but I do and in a few years I think I'll like to see this snapshot in time so I decided to make it a blog post.

Kids Say ... (May and June 2020)

More quotes and I apparently note to see pic which results in me digging for pictures.

---------

Miles - "Mommy do you want to join me over here?"

On walk.

“Are we going to keep doing this all day?”
Because this is my third walk in front of a propped camera to try to get framing. The camera fell over the 2nd time.

5/7/20

---------

Miles "What about your phone?"

"You can't just leave it there"

-- what happens when you try to prop your phone to get video. (The walk is on and off sprinkling. They loved using umbrellas.

5/12

---------

Miles: Mommy can you see yourself

Me. No. Well I can’t see my face but can see my legs. I need a mirror to see myself.

Miles: I’ll go get a mirror.

He runs to get one from the desk in his room where Ella has it.

Me looking in mirror: OK Miles what did you want me to see
Miles: I wanted you to see how pretty and beautiful you are.

Then Miles takes mirror and says “I’ll go put it back now.”

5-15

---------

Miles just came over to me while I'm eating asking “don't you need to go upstairs and check on the baby?!”

Me: Miles, the baby is down here

Miles: no he's not

Mw pointing: see

Miles: oh he is.

5/19

---------

---

Ella just made Miles come over to her and looked at him. and said "see boys have eyelashes. why don't boys have eyelashes on this show?"  it's a cartoon. the girl has major eyelashes and boy doesn't

6/2/20

---------

Yesterday I was playing Mario Kart with Miles.  He was behind but then you could see a couple people ahead of him in his screen. So I told him to try to pass them and get a better place. He then said come on mommy it's just for fun.  He didn't want me to be telling him stuff to do to make it better and just let him play nice.   I'm half asleep so doing a bad job explaining.

But 12 or 1st he doesn't care. He has fun playing.

Said on 6/4

---------

Almost every night Miles tells me “I hope you have a good night's sleep”

---------

Earlier I went to the bathroom and left Liam with Dave on the bed. I didn't even take long but I hate Liam crawling up to and around the toilet.

Well I came back. He was so happy. He hugged me so tight.

6/6

---------

Ella: sometimes when I watch this show I cry

Me: Why

Ella: because I think about what if daddy dies

Creative galaxy.

6/10/20

---------

After seeing pic of end of preschool that Ella wanted to be a teacher when she really up

I just asked her.

"Ella what do you want to be when you grow up?

Ella said "nothing. Just a mom working at home"

Kids Say ... (Jan & Feb 2020)

Here are 2 months of very old quotes. I don't document nearly as much anymore but I have 2021 to catch up on.

---------

Every day I ask Miles his favorite and least favorite parts of school that day. Today he told me he didn’t have any favorite parts so then I asked him his least favorite part and he said that it was when he saw me and I came and picked him up—-so he didn’t want to leave.

1-8-20

---------

Minutes after waking up, we walked downstairs.  Miles asked me if I would make him brownies

And added

“You are an expert brownie maker”

Too bad I’m so sick

1/16/20

---------

We head downstairs to make pancakes. I ask Miles what we need.

Miles: We need a pan. We forgot that the last time.   (see quote on 12/30)

1/20

---------

Ella’s crying.  Says it won’t be good  and she will look like a douchebag

Then Miles said she will look like a curtain

(Post hair cut aftermath) -- these are my notes from over a year ago but I believe this is when Ella cut her own hair. Funny Miles described it as a curtain!

1/25

---------

Trying to close the Christmas tree box

Miles: I know. Get something heavy and put it on it

He’s so smart. We used Dave.

2/4/20

---------

About to leave

Me: ok Miles I have to run inside and get my headphones

Miles: Ok I promise I won’t steal the baby

2/5/20

---------

Ella got a tiny heart pillow. And I asked Miles if he wanted one.

He said “yeah so I can give it to my friend Madison”

2/6

---------

“You were wrong. I was right.  You should remember to listen to others when you are wrong. And you should remember peoples names too”

2-8-20

---------

Good story. Miles asked me what happened to his ball bath bomb. I I said something like it disappeared and went down the drain or went in the water I forget my wording it wasn’t very good. Miles said "it dissolved yes that is what it did."

2/14

---------

Miles told me I looked so pretty

Me: Thank You

Miles: You look so beautiful with your pink lipstick the color that I like.

He was creative and nice

2-25-20

---------

Putting helmet on at LACP

Miles: it’s for safety mama

2-26

---------

Miles: bye mommy. Have a good week

Waving bye to me when I was leaving school

2-26

---------

Miles: mommy if you make 5 balls for me I’ll tickle your back when we get home

(Kinetic sand balls)

2-26

---------
Apparently I already posted this but since I dug up the pictures and even looked at the voice memo to type something out I'll just post it again. I didn't notice since I only looked at the tag Ella says and you see she didn't say anything on here.

800 repeats (2/11/22)

Today I did half mile Repeats. The training plan only suggested this one other time. It was so hard in October and so hard today. The heat made it even worse today. I did not make my times. I didn't make it last time. This time I was really short on time so I kept looping near my house and cut the cooldown short when I just couldn't stay out any longer. I didn't get enough time to cooldown or stretch. Then I showered and immediately sat for a meeting for an hour. My muscles are not happy with me. I have been psyching myself out for my runs lately with my updated faster goals. Today and this week I've been so rushed I didn't even have time to psych myself out. I was mid run before I looked to see what my goals were. I had hand fulls of ice in my vest but I wish I had even more. That was some warm water I was drinking.
The last 3 recovery splits I walked for 3 full minutes!! Maybe next time I will walk more earlier to not be so dead later. The very last split I felt like the wind was hitting me like crazy and I was not happy with it slowing my already slow body down.

It was hot so I wore my vest so that I could drink more water but the vest makes me way sweatier.

I often do 4 minute repeats but for some reason that extra 30 seconds makes it harder  or maybe it's all mental that I don't know when it'll be done.
I attached 10/19/21 splits too for fun.

(Ooops I forgot to post this!)

Here's 1 Second Everyday for January 2022. I took fewer videos than I thought.

Speed Repeats (6x1 6x0:30)

I have done the same workout 3 times. I previously did a post with speed workouts

Today I had even faster goal times since I changed my race goal so all training run goals have become faster. I thought there was no way I'd hit the 30 second goal times.

I'm not as shocked that my 1 min repeats were fast. I am shocked that they were ALL too fast.  I'm surprised only 1 of the 30 second repeats was too slow. I'm shocked how many were way too fast though.  Half of them were 30 seconds too fast.

Octover 8 was the first time I did this exact workout and then January 4 was the second time I did it.

I'm actually surprised how much improvement I've had.  All intervals had a 1 minute recovery. Every time I walk a bit of that and jog the rest.

Days of the week - Run

It's only February 1 and most of my charts aren't as useful to look at this early in the year.  I really like looking at my day of the week chart though.

I always do my long run on the weekend. The rest is just interesting to see.  Sunday is mostly my long run so it makes sense that Monday is mostly my day off. I was surprised at Thursday.

I also included 2021.  The average run length is low because I had so many short runs in January when I did a 10 day run streak and then they were short for about a month after my surgery in the summer.  Sunday is mostly my long run day so then Saturday I had the fewest number of runs.

Exercise Goals - January

I hit all my exercise goals in January. It was tough. The goals are probably a little high based on how much I have to keep doing.

As you can see I added 3 new things to track for 2022.

Days of the Week: Runner's Edition

I saw someone make a reel on instagram of everything they wore each day of the week. I immediately thought I should do that with running or at least workouts for the week.  Once I did that, I ended up getting a bunch of suggested reels with other people doing their week's worth of running.

I ended up making 2 videos.

1SE 2020

I went back to 2020 and put a second video on all the dates that only had one. I also finished November and December. The video is kind of long. I think it might be more fun to watch only 1 month at a time so you don't lose interest by the end. But anyway here it is. It was very time consuming to do.

1SE 2021

Apparently I used to do monthly posts with 1SE but here is all of 2021. The app was horrible for awhile for awhile and it'd take me 1-3 minutes just to get a video for 1 day.   For 2021 I went with vertical instead of horizontal.

I also made monthly goals for 6 items all year and documented. the goals for some contributed to the goals above but other ones were unrelated.

As of 12/29/21
I made almost every single month. Sometimes I'd get my push-ups 3 days early and other times I had to do so many the last 2 days just. to get enough.
A few days ago I started to do a compiled file and made a pivot table by year. I guess missing a couple months really had me miss the  year

as of 12/29. I worked out more after!
The goal for run miles I actually hit my yearly goal but when I broke it down by month I had rounded up knowing I wouldn't make it some months.  So maybe I should have a separately yearly goal in my spreadsheet.
