Sleep
Oh sleep is so annoying. About a month ago we started the transition to the bunk beds from the crib. Maybe 1.5 months ago. He woke up at 2 and ran down the hall wanting his crib. Then we did a mattress on the floor. He woke up nightly at 2 and would wake up at 5:30 for the day. It was exhausting for me. Now he sleeps through the night 90% of the time I'd say. He may still wake up early but since the clock change that has been better. But he goes to sleep near 10:30 PM. I only get him to nap about 20% of the time at home now. He naps at school for them though. They like it the days he wakes up at 5:30 because he naps easier for them.
Miles has gotten pickier. He will not want real food and always ask for marshmallows and ice cream (which he doesn't get). He's eating much less. There was a week 2 weeks ago where he only had 2 bites of food for dinner and no snacks after and he went to sleep just fine. He did wake up hungry but still 2 bites is not normal for him.
8:30 PM - start bedtime routine, diaper, benedryl (if needed but rarely needed), ipad, books, lies on mattress or floor until he falls asleep.
Asleep by 10:30
6:30 - wakes up
snacks and TV
Take Ella to school
plays
lunch
plays
nap (usually start routine near 2 and falls asleep near 3:30 but sometimes I give up at 4:30)
sleeps 1-2 hours for nap (if he naps)
get Ella, eat, play
Bedtime
When he's at school they nap 1-3ish He tends to fall asleep close to the last kid and nap about 1.5 hours.
Maybe sample schedule is a bad idea. Tuesday - Thursday he goes to preschool so I drop him off too. Friday we go to parent participation preschool that starts at 8:45. He has snack there at 10. Then we get home a few minutes after 11.
On January 11, we attempted night 1 in the bunk beds. We gave up after 2 hours.
On January 16, Miles ate cereal with milk for the first time. He said he liked it. (But then he never ate cereal with milk again.)
On January 18, Miles ate breakfast at home immediately before school. Then 25 minutes into school, he tells me he’s hungry. Then he has to wait until snack time. Then the other Miles was standing so the teacher asks “Miles, are you done eating?” And our Miles shakes his head no. Hahaha. Then it's about 45 min later we are home and walking in the door when Miles says he’s hungry and wants to eat again. At night Miles says, "I don’t want to sleep here tonight." I ask "where do you want to sleep?" Miles responds with "top bunk. I am older now." I did tell him he wasn't old enough to sleep in the top bunk. Finally at 11 PM both kids are asleep in the bunk beds!
On January 19, at 2:29 AM, Miles woke after a little over 3 hours of sleep. He was scared and cried. Then he was back in his crib.
On January 20, 2019 at 2:53 AM, Miles woke up in the bottom bunk again. So Night 2 was a fail in the bunk bed too. He counts to 14 but skips 13 sometimes.
On January 29, I noted the transition out of the crib is not going well.
On January 30, 2019 Miles had his first bath that he said was fun. And his first successful bath with Ella.
On February 1, 2019 at 9:24 PM, both kids are in the same bed. How long will it last? Oh it lasted 10 seconds. I ended up splitting them up at 10:20 but then I couldn't be in 2 places at once. While lying with Miles, Ella came in. She said she had a bad dream. He was almost asleep but then didn't want Ella in the room.
On February 2, Miles woke up crying at 2:50 AM. He wanted me to lie with him. He didn’t want the crib. He was back to sleep almost right away. He had lots of coughing though.
On February 3, 2019 at 4:04 AM, Miles rolled off the floor mattress but went back to the mattress and I didn’t have to lie down with him. (I did have to go in.)In the afternoon Miles bit for the first time. He gently bit my cheek but still it was the first time he bit someone.
On February 4, Miles had his first car to crib transfer ever succeeding at 6:30 pm.
On February 6, at 2:32 AM, instead of crying came and got me. (Twice) Then he wanted the crib.
On February 9, Miles didn’t wake up at 2 or 4 AM. He made it all the way to 6:20 AM. But then he was up for the day.
On February 11, Miles peed in potty in the morning
On February 13, Miles woke up at 3 AM. He was back to sleep right away once I went in there. I try to leave and he wakes and scratched. And then I leave and he runs out.
On February 17, Miles slept with fleece blanket instead of his afghans and without top lights on. He peed in the potty again in the morning.
On February 19, I noted Miles has been sleeping without shoes on the past few days. It's also the second day of no top light at night. But not 2 nights in a row. He woke up at 2 and then up for the day a little after 5. He peed in the potty.
On February 20, Miles slept without socks on! (This may not seem like a milestone but usually he sleeps with socks and shoes on and most definitely socks if we manage to not sleep with shoes on. Many nights or naps I have to go and get his shoes to put them on so he can sleep.)
On February 21, at 11:10 PM, after 2 hours, gave up trying to have Miles in Ella's room. He got fed up.
On February 22, Miles fell asleep in the car. He then slept in garage for over an hour!
On February 24, at a birthday party Miles said, "I’m tired. Does this party have beds?"
On March 3, not only was Miles no nap Miles but he had Benadryl. So he was very cranky. He would be set off if he didn’t get his way.
Ella hit Miles on the head when he sat down at her craft area she set up. He got so mad he pushed stuff on the floor. Then got mad in family room. Dave asked if he was still mad about just being hit. (And he was laughing.) Miles said “it’s not funny” so then I laugh too. Oops. He got madder.
On March 9, I realize Miles stalls every nap and night by saying “something missing.”
Development:
He can count higher than before. I know he can get to 11. But sometimes he gets to 17. He might need help with 13 then he keeps going.
He has started to want to sit on the potty but never seems to go. He even says he tries to go but doesn't. He won't poop while out and goes immediately after returning home so I know he can hold and time that but I just can't get him to sit on the potty to poop.
He's started talking about actual friends as his friends versus adults and teachers.
He sings a lot more songs and it's not just knowing the words. He will also criticize how I sing certain songs because I do it wrong.
He talks a lot. He will pretend play and talk for hours. Mostly everyone understand him. There are the words with 2 consonants in a row that don't quite sound right but in context everyone can figure them out.

Miles likes to sit on his potty just recently but almost never pees in it. Getting Miles to sleep is very time consuming. I had issues with Ella too. Miles still can't undress himself or dress himself. But I blame it on his big head. Even when he wore a size 7 shirt that was insanely big, it still got stuck on his head when he tried to get it off.
I bribed Miles to take these pictures saying we'd get cupcakes for his half birthday. And I still couldn't get him to stand still for pictures. He kept running around.
I feel like there is so much more to say but I can't think of what now.
Cute pictures. He has big feet!
ReplyDeleteHe does. I tried to ask a 5 year old friend if they had old shoes we could borrow just for backup shoes and give back for her 2nd boy. But her 5 year old was in a smaller size than Miles.
