4.54 mile run (January 23) - Treadmill

I ran on the treadmill. It is too cold to run outside. I hate running on a treadmill, so I'm surprised I made it as far as I did. I was supposed to run 7. I ran 4.54 in 44:29.  Well .3 of that I walked. So I guess I only ran 4.24.  Last weekend I was supposed to run 6 and I ran 0.

I also didn't run continuously (which is why I don't have the right mile splits)
I ran 0.5, stretched, 1.25, picked up my towel from the floor (it accidentally fell and then flew behind me) .04 (where I accidentally hit stop when I was picking up my paper), 1 (where I was about to quit and decided that I wouldn't), 1.75.  I made it 2.75 miles before my first walk break.

My training plan is going horribly.  I'm using Hal Hidgon's Training plan. By using it, I mean I have only followed it 3 out of 15 days and those 3 days were rest days.

Week 1: I ran 2.2 miles and should have ran 15 miles.
Week 2: I ran 7.64 miles and should have ran 16 miles.

See some stats below from my run.

How do you handle running in the cold? Have any of you ever training for a marathon or half marathon throughout the winter?

  1. I'm trained for my two marathons in fall/winter (last year's race was in February, this year's is on Sunday!). But as we've discussed on Twitter, running in the winter is much easier when you live in Texas. To me, "cold" is anything under 30. I once ran a 5K when it was 19 degrees at the start and I think that's the coldest run I've ever had. I only did it because I had already signed up for the race, otherwise I probably would have skipped or run on a treadmill.

  2. I think with a February race most of the training is before it gets so cold.
But also "so cold" in Texas is different. Like I wanted to run Sunday but I checked the weather and it was -2.
