Help - Boots

I need some help guys. I don't know what to wear with my new brown boots.
So far all I've done is the same khaki skirt and then different brown shirts.  I was trying to go with a color shirt and just wasn't sure if it went or not. What would you wear? What color skirt? What color shirt? Links to things online would be fine if you have them or know of them.

Pretty much all the clothes I wear can be found on my calendar site scrolling a few months.  Please provide me with some suggestions.  Also, I want to buy a skirt that is a print with brown in it or even a solid brown skirt. I'm 90% sure that would work but I couldn't find brown in the stores. I feel like I wear brown in the fall but then I can't buy brown in the fall. I fell into this problem before when trying to buy brown pants a few years ago.

Update: I know stuff matches based on Stampin' Up colors but they don't have a khaki.  Earth Elements had brown. Now it's Elements but I wouldn't use that... it's all neutrals.  I also thought that a dark blue would go because my parents family room has a brown wall, khaki almost colored carpet, and blue couches. (The shade of blue is almost the same one in the Earth Elements and I have a shirt that color..hmmm. Oh and I wore that with khakis and brown shoes before or I wear it with a khaki skirt.)

  1. Hey Colleen -

Brown boots are SO versital, I'm sure you have plenty of things in your closet to wear with them. One of my favorite things to wear with my brown boots is brown tights - I'm not sure if you wear opaque tights, but they're so in style right now and warm! I personally would add a brighter color on top and stay away from more neutrals - So maybe brown boots, tights, khaki skirt and a green top? One of my things I do when I'm trying to think of what colors to wear with something is think of where that color is found in nature and what colors are found with it - so trees are brown with green leaves, so that goes together. In the fall, trees have maroon, orange, and rust color leaves, so that works...stuff like that! I hope this helps!

  2. I actually don't own any tights. I've had battles with tights for years. They don't fit. They don't make it to my crotch but I have recently learned to buy a size bigger than the height/weight thing tells me. But I used to wear black tights but they looked almost white with my leg showing through because the black pantyhose had to be pulled so tight to get up my leg.

I use nature and trees when I wore brown with green before. I thought of brown and coral but then the khaki didn't seem to go. I don't know. I asked my husband on that one since I wasn't sure.

I didn't know khaki went with green (I'm dumb what can I say)... i should make a post about my outfit list that I used to keep and how I learn things match. i always just tell people "I'm an engineer" when i start to say how I can't match and then they understand.

I actually tried to find fall colors while shopping this weekend. I have a lot of brights... but I failed at shopping. :(

    Would this green go: http://colleen.akwire.net/_clothes/images/August16,2010big.jpg
    or this one

    or http://colleen.akwire.net/_clothes/images/April22,2010big.jpg
(I still haven't found the green one I was going to ask about originally)

(this one might be more of a teal) http://colleen.akwire.net/_clothes/images/April5,2010big.jpg

Oh here's the green i thought originally. it's green but lighter. i don't know if it goes with khaki. http://colleen.akwire.net/_clothes/images/March8,2010big.jpg
    Would this blue go? http://colleen.akwire.net/_clothes/images/June24,2010big.jpg

These are serious questions I really don't know.

  3. I think all those tops would work! Like I said, brown and khaki are both neutrals so they go with anything (If you're really bold you could even wear black, but I don't mix black and brown).

As far as tights, try Target's "premium" tights. I just bought a pair the other day - they are VERY thick, so you can't see any skin through them. Or maybe try retailers that typically carry "tall" clothing - maybe they carry tall versions of tights (I don't know because I'm short!). However, one of my favorite things to do with boots is just wear leggings - since they are tucked in to your boots they look just like tights, and then you wouldn't have to worry about them not being long enough!

  4. Thank you! I thought about blue but then was unsure. I think I got lost in myself because I wanted a different skirt with a pattern and just didn't own one so it threw off my ability to think.

I have another khaki skirt but it's slightly below the knee and i didn't think it looked right with a boot. also I have a shorter skirt and it felt too short and summary with a boot.

    shorter
longer -- i really like this skirt. I think it is one size too big so it sits a little lower than it would normally. it's also older so below the knee skirts were in style. I have some below the knee (well mid calf) skirts but I hate them. they don't look good on me. I don't wear them. i own 2 that I never even wore and they are 4 years old. I should probably get rid of them.

  5. Hey, I meant to leave a comment a while back thanking you for the comment you left on my blog, but I think I got distracted, anyway, thank you so much! Anyway, Ashley is definitely right, brown works great with so many colors, you can't wrong, but I totally understand having trouble dressing outside your comfort zone! But Brown is a neutral so it goes with EVERYTHING! Also, this is a really nice post I found on Academichic a while back that discusses color: http://www.academichic.com/2009/02/02/fashion-101-how-to-combine-colors/ so you might enjoy that. No matter, what have fun because those are rocking boots! Anyway, I hope that helps and that you're having a great day! :)

  6. Agree with Ashley--and she's great at explaining to you as an engineer;)

I never wore these two colors before--not really for any real reason but just not intentionally either until just recently--red and dark brown. It's one of my favorite color combos now.

You can also wear your purple with brown (I know you love it), and as everyone has noted, since it's a neutral, you can wear pretty much anything! The only thing I steer clear of with brown is 1) black 2) too much neutral-read: monochromatic.

  7. Ashley, if I were to buy tights to go with these booths and black boots, what 3 colors /types of tights would be your top 3 that I should buy?
